How can I extend my visa using work permit?

I'm an international master student who is about to be graduated a couple of weeks later. I'd like to apply for post-graduation work permit.

I'm gonna temporarily leave Canada during upcoming Christmas holidays to meet my family abroad (after two years). However, the point is that my visa will be expired at the end of December 2018. So, if I leave Canada, I will have no valid visa to come back. On the other hand, my nationality is not among those for which eTA is authorized to apply.

Now, I have no idea what I can do! Is it possible to extend my visa using my work permit, or I will be trapped in Canada?!
