Hi Folks,

Sorry, for this is a very specific question which only my Indian Muslim friends, who are willing to migrate, will be able to answer, or at least that's what I believe. Anybody else is welcomed to help, please, as always

I am originally from Lucknow, and got married to a Delhi girl.
We got married as per Islamic traditions, so we have two Nikahnama (Islamic marriage contract and certificate) - One from a Lucknow based seminary, another from a Delhi based one.

Has anyone used such a Nikahnama successfully in their PR application document submission?

Mine, is not attested, but is in English language.
Our marriage is also not registered in Indian court of law, since muslim marriages are governed by Muslim Personal laws in India.

I am getting mixed suggestion outside, for example, to notarized the Nikahnama from a notary, some say I should go do a court marriage, and some are suggesting I should register it in court or get it attested form a gazetted officer.

Has anyone dealt with this before, what was your route for a successful document?

Can my application be rejected based on this?

Thanks in advance!

When you have a doubt about nikahnama it will be wise to have your marriage registered and provide the same instead of nikahnama. You will save a lot of stress and delay in case if ircc doesn't except or asks for any other docs to support it.

Thanks!

This would be last resort.
Have you, by any chance, been in the same situation as mine?
If yes, then what did you do?

As per the laws in India, irrespective of which religious laws you marry under, you have to get your marriage registered with the local authorities.

Unless a document is issued by a government authority, it is invalid and will not be accepted by IRCC as a proof of marriage.

Yes, Zubair,

I ended up creating a Marriage Certificate under Special Marriage Act, by going to the sub-registrar office in my area.

I learned from multiple sources that this is the surest way to get this accepted, so I went ahead with this.
Also, I couldn't find any examples of other people who had gotten their Urdu nikahnama's translated+notarized, and had a success or failure with PR. Everybody had used the marriage certificate.

Beware, this can take AT LEAST 32 days, so be very quick.

Hope that helps

Hi, I have a similar case but in my case my nikahnama's english copy is notarised and attested by a gazetted officer. Do you think it can work?
