hi all,
after your citizenship certificate(oath ceremony) is it mandatory to apply for Canadian passport immediately? I mean , can someone continue with the Indian passport and travel to India on the Indian passport instead of Canadian ? I am not sure if one has to deposit the PR card at the oath ceremony? any inputs
You should apply for one. It's not mandatory, but you should apply for one because they don't hand out citizenship cards anymore.
When you take the oath, you surrender your PR card.
Depending on your country of citizenship, you should get a Canadian passport for the return back, but use your other one to enter the country. For example: I'm a US citizen so I absolutely must use a US passport to enter the country--otherwise, it's an extreme fine. But on the way back into Canada, I'd use a Canadian passport because I have Canadian citizenship.
You'll want to consult your country's laws about what to do, because it could be like the example above or they could be cool with it.
