If your employer does not provide you with a job duties letter, you can have it signed by one of your colleagues or seniors also.
You can do it on a simple paper only.

- Have your work experience letter from your employer (Which might only include your employment start & finish date, your post on its letterhead)
- Job duties letter (signed by your colleague/senior)

If you need some guidance on format of the same, then please follow these links;

Hope it helps.

Hi Veerla,
I was also having the same issue. But my consultant was telling that that reference letter should be given by your reporting manager in the company letter pad. Mean while in my Company only HR has the authority to give the same.It may not be in the same format as required. If our collegue or senior can give then it would be a huge relief. Thanks to JPV!!

Hi Sree
Now am trying to get a letter from senior on white paper and signed by him with duties. But still, I doubt whether it will help me or bring more queries from CIC. Hope it will work out

Hi Sree,

I'm in a field in which I don't report to any manager or supervisor. So, I am not able to obtain JD (Job description) letter from the one like this.

So, I asked one of my friends already migrated to Canada through EE, and he suggested me to obtain the same from my senior. I just asked my senior for the same and he willingly signed the letter for me. I guess I got lucky enough.

However, in companies, if you ask your HR to provide you with a reference or experience letter, then perhaps it would create a kind of sense to him that you are going to leave this company shortly. It provokes a series of cascade which, at the end, reaches to higher level, unfortunately.

So, better you just don't ask your HR to issue a JD letter. Instead, ask your colleague for the same. He will surely not hesitate.

Did the letter signed by Manager/Superior accepted by CIC as proof of employement?

Hii,

Exactly JPV, i was also thinking in the same line.Asking the experience letter will ring an alarm for them...Getting an reference letter in plain paper with relevant job description is fine.I can do that. But on letter head that too from reporting manager is suicidal.First of all he wont do that and also he will black list me.Did you submit any supporting documents??

Proof of employment is different. Please, don't be confused between 'Proof of Employment/Work experience letter' and 'Job description letter'.

Work exp letter is one which contains your employment status, i.e. your joining & relieving dates, post during employment, company's contact details, etc. on its OFFICIAL LETTERHEAD.

Job description letter is a letter which can contain as many details as you want to include in it. i.e. in addition to above, it also contains working hours, salary paid, full time/part time, and your essential duties you worked during your employment. It is NOT necessary to be on official letterhead, since the employer might not give this to his employees. (In majority of cases, employer doesn't issue this). So, you have to get it from one of your colleagues/seniors. Obviously, he will not have his own letterhead. So, he can issue it on a simple paper, with his sign (& his own stamp, if he has one).

So, be clear in mind about these 2 documents.
It's highly recommended that you provide both of these docs in your 'Employment records' section in your e-APR.

I've already given formats for both of them in this thread.

Please let me know how that goes? For one of the jobs in my work history I needed a letter from a former colleague and a bunch of other supporting documents (T4, emails) because the company I worked for no longer exists. My other two jobs gave me a copy of my formal job description and a letter confirming the dates I worked there, number of hours a week, job title etc because for some reason neither wanted to condense that info and the job description/duties into a single letter.

Hey,

I am having the same problem. My employer will not mention the duties in work experience letter.
Could you please tell that whether your express entry application was cleared with the reference letter from your colleague or senior?

waiting for prompt reply.

Even I was unable to provide the reference letter in IRCC standard format. Hence, I submitted the personal reference letter signed by my colleague with a copy of her business ID proof, but also added more documents like my promotion letters and salary statements.

We have received the PPR as of August 30 2019.

Hope this helps and please note everything depends upon the case officer and based on the information in your profile.

However, this is what everyone follows as some of the employers do not disclose roles and responsibilities.
