Hey about car insurance in Canada. Did you have to get a reference from your US insurance company for you to be covered? How did the process of getting car insurance go for you? What kind of rates did you get and what company did you go with?
TBH it was a pain in the rear. It's much more expensive here. You do at least get better coverage. There was a bunch of handy stuff if we ever needed extra help while recovering from an accident, so at least there's more to it than the less competition/higher risk in a city (if you're in Toronto especially) issues. We ended up using a broker. Two, actually, and went with the cheapest option. We felt kind of bad about that but got cold feet and checked with a website-based brokerage at the last minute. I would completely recommend going that route. Individual insurance companies vary so much, especially when you're coming from the US and it's much easier to let someone else figure it all out, especially if you need tenant's insurance too.

Thanks so much for the info. Did you have to get a reference from your US insurance company in order to get better rates? So are you saying its better to use a broker? I will be using a Scarborough address. Can you provide the website you used? Thanks I really appreciate your help.

We got letters from our agent in the US and ended up using them. The website we used was isure.ca. Kanetix is more popular here but didn't work as well coming from the US. The other one was a local agent we found on the list on the Traveler's website but I can't find his info in my old emails.

If you applied for the online option, you should have received a PIN in the e-mail. Use that PIN to login to your FBI account. You should get an email from them once they receive your fingerprints and post which you should receive an email stating that the report is complete (It took under 5 minutes to get the report email)

Definitely use a broker, I did mine over the phone instead of a site. Took the lowest of two brokers... I got a copy of my driver's license record showing how long I've been a licensed driver, and also letters of experience from my insurance agency. These brought the rate down tremendously.

Greetings all, I am living in South Georgia, USA. My AOR is April 28th and I have submitted my RPRF on May 28th. Usually how much time will it take to get PPR email for US residents?

Hey guys... The letter from my bank only shows the last 4 digits of my account numbers. Do you know if this is acceptable? I really, really don't want to wait another month for them to generate another letter (if they even would at all). :( It's an online bank, so there are no branches.

Did u finish your medical now and has submitted the results? Now, are u "medical passed"?
My status changed to "you passed the medical exam" in late February. Within the following two weeks my statuses changed to "we are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements," and "we are processing your background check" and have stayed the same since then.

Does CIC need your account number or just your account details?

Both? I don't know. This is what the requirement for the letter says:
Express Entry - Permanent Residents
If you are applying for permanent residence in Canada, you must provide an official letter issued by your financial institution indicating your financial profile. This must:
  • list of all your bank (chequing and savings) and investment accounts, the account numbers, dates each account was opened and the balance of each account over the past six months,
  • list all outstanding debts, such as credit cards and loans,
  • be printed on the letterhead of the financial institution, and include your name and the contact information of the financial institution (address, telephone number and e-mail address).
Someone told me today that it doesn't matter if all the digits are there as long as the account is identified by at least some numbers and the rest of the information asked for is there. I've seen that some people with Bank of America have had this same issue-- the bank only issues information using the last 4 digits of the account-- but I haven't been able to track anyone down to figure out if they had success with a letter providing just the last 4 digits.

The only thing I provided to them was six months downloaded online statements and I was successful.
