Hello Members,

Pardon this mundane query. I have indeed searched for similar questions, but would appreciate your input, regardless of the information, already found.

My Dad was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in 1919. He then lived in Canada before moving to the USA, sometime after WWII (he flew a Spitfire for the RAF). My mom was a US citizen. They married in WA state, 1952, and I was born in the US, 1961. Both parents are now gone. I have distant family that currently reside in Canada and are Canadian Citizens.

It appears, from what I've read, that I may claim Canadian Citizenship, due to my Dad being born in Canada. Does this sound correct?

Thank you....

I think you are Canadian citizen because you are first generation born abroad. Experts can pitch in.

Yes, you are a Canadian citizen. To get proof of that fact, you will need to apply for a citizenship certificate:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/proof-citizenship/apply.html

Required documents are your father's birth certificate and yours. The cost is C$75.

And add to the posts above, if your children were born in US or anywhere outside Canada before April 25, 2015, they also have Canadian citizenship as well. They would have to wait until you get your citizenship certificate first before they can start claiming their citizenship as well.

Sorry. I meant 2009, not 2015

Sorry, but that's potentially incorrect. The OP's children would only be Canadian citizens if the OP was a citizen before April 17, 2009. And, the OP would only be a citizen before that date if his birth was registered. It could only have been registered if the OP's father was still a Canadian citizen (hadn't taken U.S. citizenship) in 1961. So, it's unlikely that the OP's children would be Canadian citizens.

ALL replies are much appreciated--Thank you.

Actually, we have no dipedal children, but are parents to a pack of 7 Shiloh Shepherds.
