So for anyone this has happened to, and you are concerned about your work permit, I just spoke to a rep from the IRCC on the phone.
She said;
*they usually hold on to the open work permit application if its all correct and await the return of the rest of your application (for permanent residency, as they go hand in hand)
*BUT the lady checked my file, they usually leave a note saying that this is the case, but they did not. So what she told me to do is include a letter of explanation, payment receipt for the open work permit (as that wasnt sent back to me) and a copy of my current work permit (which expires june 24th 2018)

I've sent it off now, I'll let keep you updated if anyone is in a similar situation

Hi guys
So I sent my family sponsorship (common law) application along with my OWP on april 11th.
My sponsorship application was returned today due to an error made by myself, it's been corrected and resent.
My only concern is that my OWP application wasn't included in the package that was returned to me...
My current IEC expires June 24th, I know I'm cutting it close. I'm wondering if they started to process it anyway because of how urgent it is? Thats my wishful thinking anyway.
Does anyone else have any experience with this? Ive been trying to look it up but there arent many cases of this from what I can see, which is slightly worrying

Whats the IEC? If you on the travel visa, you need to extension now.

And you should try to link your OWP account online, it should be there already.

Hi everyone ! I’ll be applying through the spousal spons. Inland family class. I have already a work permit, however, it expires next September 6th. I’m very worried about it since I heard the timing for the open work permit is 4 months. I would really appreciate if somebody here can share his/her experience about the wating time for the OWP. How long does it take ? I’m afraid of going over my current work permit and being without status for a month, I want to keep myself working to pay my bills here . We are planning on submitting the application for the sponsorship on May the23 rd, unfortunately we cannot do it earlier because of some documents we are still missing. So I feel in a tightrope, I’m not sure if with an implied status I’ll be able to work

Mine was received on December 21st so I guess technically we're 2017 applicants! But I have a question that I thought I'd ask here and it also might help other people. I noticed after sending our application that this was mentioned on cic guidelines:
The order of documents should be as follows:
checklist;
open work permit application (and supporting documents), if applicable;
any barcode pages;
supporting documents, in the order they’re listed on the checklist.

Has anyone else missed that? Also for anyone who hasn't submitted yet, keep that in mind!

I put my OWP application in and they sent it back to me saying it had to go to a different processing centre
