Applying for express entry before graduating/marrying

Hey everyone,

My fiancé and I are both getting our masters in the Netherlands (he is American, I am Dutch) and will be graduating coming september. We have not set a date to get married. Can we still apply before getting our diplomas and getting married? (and get points for that) It would obviously take some time before we would get an invitation to apply, if that ever happens. If we get invited to apply we would have our diplomas and get married in those 90 days.

We want to stay together and would get married eventually regardless, but we would want to do it sooner if that means getting into Canada. It would just be a shame if we got married right after college and then didn't get invited until later.

Does anyone understand my problem and have some answers for me? Thank you!

You won't be given points for your masters until it is evaluated by one of the agencies that determine canadian equivalency (ECA) and for that you need your diplomas.
If you want to register in the EE pool now you need ECA for your bachelor's degree, IELTS resulta and your NOC code. You could add the masters degrees later to your profile.
Wether you should register now or wait for the ECA with the masters depends on your CRS scores.

You can apply as a common law couple or a married couple. Both are valid for CIC (but they'll require proof of you living togeher for a year or more if not married. And it's also fine to get married during the process. There's a lot of threads on that subject in this forum.

Thank you so much for your help! Could I add the degrees and then get them evaluated by the time we get invited? (if we get invited). With just my bachelor, my score is pretty pathetic.

I have been trying to find more threads on the subject here, but I have not been able to find them. Could you help me find them?

Thank you so much for your answer.

You can add them but when asked if you have ECA you'll have to answer no and thus won't get any points for them.

Regarding the marriage thing search for terms like "adding spouse after ITA/AoR/PPR" (those are different stages of the process)

For common law relationship: search "common law evidence" or something along those lines. You should find a lot of threads
