Hello,

I am from India and I have got offer letter from university with Scholarship, TA ship and RA ship. My IELTS was valid during time of university application. My university evaluated it during the admission application. Its validity has expired now. I wanted to know if I can apply for Study Permit with that IELTS (Expired) score

Anyone, please share your similar experience.

No. Must be less than 2 years old.
Hi, Thank you for reply.
But when I get LOA, my IELTS validity was already expired. Infact, I applied few days before it was about to expire. I think university either has evaluated it or waived it (my past education, mode of instruction and examination , was in english).
with this, I think I should be able to use my recent score?

It even says on the IELTS Score sheet that it expires in 2 yrs from the test date. You can use it if you want to and they might accept it but chances are high that they won't.
Good luck.
But I do not get any specific space/link to upload academic documents and/or language proficiency proof while applying online. It only wants to upload passport, letter of acceptance, proof of finance, Medical, digital photo and couple of forms (form IMM1294 for study permit made outside canada and family information form).
There is another space named as 'Client Information' which is under the heading 'Optional Documents'.

It says Expired for a reason. If they lasted indefinitely there would not be a need for an expiry date.

I answered your query in some other post .

Any asset , business documents showing worth , source of funds , bank letter , bank statement , ITR etc go in "PROOF OF FUNDS"

Any document explaining things like , IELTS , property docs , previous 10th , 12th and any education , ties to country like a business or property in your name should go in " CLIENT INFORMATION " where you attach all documents alongside your LOE .

People who didn't submit documents I mentioned above , and thought no need as it doesn't say required if applying online , were REJECTED .

So please , if applying online , submit EVERYTHING .

Thank you Captain!!
I will include all the documents that are required as you mentioned.
With the above information in mind, still, I want to reiterate my specific concern, as below:
Validity of my language proficiency proof got over after few days of I applied. I got admission in Master's program(Thesis based) after almost two months of my application along with Teaching Assistance ship ans scholarship. So, university has either evaluated test score i submitted or waived the requirement of language proficiency. However, my letter of acceptance does not mention anything about language proficiency.
Now my concern is:
If I got admission by university considering my submitted score then can i submit same test result for visa application?
Or if I have been waived for the proficiency proof then that too make me eligible to submit the same test result?correct?
Can you please give your view in this regard?

I can't comment on this as I haven't really gone through it .
There's a questions which I think asks if you've done english language test in last 2 years .
And I think the IELTS test result has an expiry date ?

Well if it's expired then I don't think it's of much use , but I'd suggest you ask other members about this .

OR you can go ahead and apply for visa and mention in SOP that when you applied and were accepted by Uni , your IELTS were valid then .

And that question in form IMM1294 (Study permit made outside canada) precisely is:
"Have you taken a test from a designated testing agency to asses your proficiency in English or French? No/Yes"
With this, I believe that I can submit the same score based on which I got the admission. Through his forum, I get to know that many applicants in this forum have got study permit without proficiency proof as their university waived this requirement. In my case, only thing is that my LOA does not mention anything about it.
My undergraduate education is English and I have official evidence for it.
So, I am curious to know experience of someone who has/had similar situation.

Hi,
I have read some cases about applicants receiving language exemption letters from Canadian universities. You may do the same , request your university a letter which would demonstrate that you are waived from the language proficiency requirement.

At this point you don't really have an option. Submit ielts and see what happens. I sense that if the university is willing to overlook the expiry date CIC will also overlook the expiry date. Best of luck.

In my opinion, I think its best you request for a waiver letter from your DLI, it will make your expire IELTS results very substantial

CIC and DLI are different bodies with separate assessment and view points of documents.. I'll advice you not to gamble, try to get a waiver letter to support your ex IELTS

Hello everyone. I have the same question.
I have recieved the LOA from the DLI, who waived off the requirement of language proficiency test since my previous degrees were in English.

However, while applying for the study permit, under the checklist of documents and under strongly recommended, "Test results taken within last 24 months to demonstrate ability in the language of proposed study" is mentioned. I am mentioning the link here (https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5957E.pdf)

In this case, will a letter from the DLI which would demonstrate that I am waived off from the language proficiency requirement be sufficient or should IELTS be written for the sake of study permit?

IELTS is not a requirement for study visa if your school has waived it off however the officer needs to be convinced that your English or French ability is good enough to succeed. I did not any IELTs or TOEFL and had no problems, although my undergrad was from the US
