Proof of ending previous common-law relationship

Hi there
Hoping someone can help. My partner and I are currently going through the process of applying for his sponsorship to Canada.
Looking at the checklist however I see that if I have been in other previous common-law relationships I have to prove that they have ended.
I had one previous relationship that ended back in early 2010. I however have no record of it ending, nor can I really contact my previous partner to confirm this, as things did not end on a good note. Is there any other way to prove other than a signed copy from both of us?
Please help! Hate to have to think that this will have to be delayed because of something that ended so long ago now.

Hi there, where on the checklist do you see that? I never had to prove the ending of my common law relationships - I just had to write in the details on one of the application forms. My app is at a fairly advanced stage too so I think if there was anything like that required I'd have heard about it by now.

Was just looking through the document checklist that I found online. And one of the boxes was proof of ending previous common-law relationships. Maybe I got an old version?

Maybe this form needs to be completed although seems odd after 8 years to have to solemnly declare. What do people do where they have had a few common laws as sure that must happen as well and they would rather forget the name or the experience ?

That one seems great. If nothing else I’ll just have to do that. But yeah my thoughts exactly. It’s been so long I can’t even remember where it ended. I’m just worried about that one particularly because it would have been declared to the government. Seems silly if it ended so long ago.

You do not need to get any old common-law partners involved. A very simple declaration or affidavit done by yourself that the previous common-law relationship ended, would be good enough. It's plainly obvious anyways the old relationship ended, since you're married or common-law to someone else now.

I did answer yes on app and provided his name. underneath the question it says additional info may be requested at a later time so I figured that's all I needed. I did write a letter (kind of like a support letter for our app explaining My break up and new relationship with husband) and My ex ( my daughters father) also wrote us a support letter as we are still friends and coparent well. will my app be returned to me? did i need a declaration?

You'll only have needed to do a declaration/give proof if you were asked to on your checklist. There isn't a generic Checklist, it is specific to your case, based on where you say you are from, where you are living, etc. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp?_ga=2.101617154.2088511996.1521468908-2066948307.1511489363 if that doesn't say anywhere that you needed evidence, I wouldn't worry. I've been in multiple common law partnerships and was never asked for anything like that.

That checklist is 2 YEARS OLD. You need to follow the links on the official website to get to the actual application.
