Visitor visa for would be wife

I am getting married soon. I want my spouse to accompany me after marriage. We are thinking of visitor visa for now and sponsorship later since sponsorship is quite a lengthy process. She is working and lives outside Canada. I am PR in canada. Which option would be best;

1. Before marriage: She applies on her own without mentioning anything about me. A family friend can invite her
2. Before marriage: I invite her as fiance or friend
3. After marriage: I invite her as wife
4. Any other option?

Please suggest.

Generally, this could be successful.

2. Before marriage: I invite her as fiance or friend

It's not a good idea to say she is a 'friend' when you will be marrying her shortly. It's best to be honest with IRCC if you decide to invite her. Chances of approval are lower than the first option.

3. After marriage: I invite her as wife

Least likely to be successful.


Regardless of who invites her, your fiancée must prove she is a genuine, short-term visitor (and not someone who is trying to circumvent the processing time for a spousal PR).

She would need to prove she has established strong ties to her home country + a good financial situation + hopefully, this is not her first trip abroad. In short: The invitation letter is only a 'supplementary' document. Her visa application will be evaluated for its own merits

Appreciate your detailed responses. So it looks like I will need to pick one of the two options below;

1. She applies on her own, this will have a better chance for approval. But after I visit her and we marry and she travel back with me to Canada as my wife. Will there be any red flags at Port of entry? Also any implications in PR sponsorship?

2. Someone told me to also consider an option to apply after marriage with Honeymoon as the main purpose. Any thoughts for this option? If I consider this option, Can it save us from any future implications in option 1?

She can apply as a tourist/visitor. Again, this could work if she has traveled to other countries.

But, previous travel is not the only criterion for granting a TRV. She must have an overall solid application.

But after I visit her and we marry and she travel back with me to Canada as my wife. Will there be any red flags at Port of entry? Also any implications in PR sponsorship?

No to both questions.

Honeymoon will not work as the purpose of visit. The visa officer will certainly believe that she will overstay and apply for spousal PR via the inland process
