Yes a pure lottery system is the fairest most transparent and best option for the PGP program.
Yes.

Unlike the economic stream where you select best candidate based on economic interest of Canada with a CRS score matrix, PGP is granted purely based on compassion and well being of Canadians.

But then, neither first come first serve or lottery are perfectly fair, especially when demand is outrageously higher than supply of slots. The former punishes people with less access to information and ability to obtain documents and the latter puts people's life on pure luck. I am more leaning towards raising the bar on the sponsor and gauge adaptabilities of the parents. After all, it is up to the sponsor to support the parents when they arrives

Hello Everyone,

My mom got selected for 2018. I am planning of submitting my mom's application and need some advice. First, i just realized that the Document Checklist file cannot be opened. Anyone having similar issues? Also, do I need to let my mom sign the forms, get photos and mail them to me in Canada to be posted to CPC-M or she has to mail it from her home country? Do I do to include medical as she just had one done when she was in Canada? What about police report - is upfront accepted? Also, do I need to add the representative form, although I will be filling the form for her?
I have 60 days to submit her application and your advice will be much appreciated. Thank you

I have written a lot on this before. Most have disagreed with me. The majority prefer the lottery system and view it the most fair system around. I will no longer give my views on this issue except to say that I agree. I have been warned by authorities.

I have consulted my lawyer on options to bring my parents over without PR. We will purchase expensive insurance programs. It is worth looking into other options now. I am not sure but I will also ask my accountant if such insurance premiums can have tax implications or breaks.

While the PGP lottery system is the fairest for giving out PRs it is totally unpredictable and I doubt reasonable people would agree to plan their lives like this.

Cheers.

yes, but for me I'm not selected to sponsor my parents. Ill try again next year. My husband's father is more older and he is living alone in India as my mother in law passed away last year. My case is the same, but my father is still working back home, so I can still wait till next year!
The lottery system is the fairest way.

Hello Folks,

Congratulations to all who got selected in the first round and all the best for the second round including me!!

Fortunately my wife got selected as well to sponsor her parents :)

My wife and I are planning to submit the application(total 5 ppl, we two,her mom-dad and her brother) but we have one issue regarding the income for 2015.
-2015 income : the min. income for 5 ppl should be $65,377 but our income was $61,377 which is off by $4000
-2016 & 2017 we meet the income requirements.

We are confused if we should even try applying or not? The fees are non refundable if the application is refused except the he right of permanent residence fee (RPRF).
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/results-by-topic.asp?st=4.10

Please let me know your thoughts and suggest what should I do?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you. I hope things turn out really well for your wife and your inlaws. It is an amazing opportunity to have been selected which many here would be willing to pay many thousand dollars to have.

Wish you all the best! Hope you don't let your opportunity go to waste! When you submitted the interest to sponsor there was a section that spelled out how much you need for each Financial Years LICO which you had to tick yes in order to submit your interest to sponsor. Did you tick yes?

If you didn't meet the 2015 income requirements, then why did you enter the lottery in the first place??

If you don't meet income even by $1, you don't qualify and your app will end up being rejected. You definitely don't qualify to sponsor your own parents if selected in 2nd round since that would increase your family size by +2 more.

Amazing that with the rules and income requirements so clearly displayed this time around, ineligible people still applied.

If you are willing to pay thousands of dollars in courier, then you are willing to pay the expensive medical insurance, there is no tax implications/breaks for that.
by the way, I was not selected in the lottery thrice now, my mom is here with me under super visa.

Do you have any advice with regards to the medical insurance? What company insures your parents?

I am thinking of giving up on the program. The thing is my parents are the type that like to save money if you know what I mean. I will try to convince them. My sisters have got their PR under the ITA/CRS system and will be doing their landing in a few months. I guess supervisa will be the way to go for us.

As you said before Rob, it doesnt matter what they do, there will always be people who are ineligible who will apply. But hey it's fair. :)

Hi All,

I got selected for my parents sponsorship. My quick question, is the income criteria of "family income" means myself and husband together or it is just mine that will be considered.

The thing is my 2015 income is bit less as I was self employed however, family income (with my husband) meets the criteria.
Any insights will be appreciated.

Regards
Priya

I got the insurance here: https://parentsupervisa.ca/ after checking the other quotes.

They selected 15000 application but it doesn't say how many applied for this year 2018. Looks like this year less people than last year. hope all the best for all of you....I deleted my confirmation number so i don't know how can i check until i don't get any email from CIC.
