Hi,

I'm fairly new to the forums. I have a question in regards to my husband. He is a CDN PR card holder and also USA PR green card holder. We live and work in USA and Canada knows we are resident of USA. His CDN PR card expired a few weeks ago, we mailed in the renewal documents but haven't received the new PR card yet. He is travelling to Canada for a few days for work in April. Does he need his CDN PR card to enter Canada? He will be travelling on his British Passport. I didn't think he did as we are non resident (I am CDN citizen so he is always meeting residency requirements).

Does anyone know?
Thanks!
Kathryn

Does he use plane? If yes then he will need one. Not because of the immigration part itself but because of the boarding problems (he might be denied board a plane heading to Canada without either PR card or ETA). And he cannot ask for ETA. And since he does not have a USA passport, then he will need something.

Another issue that you might encounter that he might not meet RO requirements (amount of days in Canada). At which point he would risk to be reported upon crossing the border.

Anyway the easiest solution for lacking PR is not to use any commercial travel means (definitely not plane to Canada). Best is to use a private car or a taxi to cross the borders.

The RO requirement part would be more tricky (I am assuming that he might have problems there as he mainly lives and works in USA now).

Wife is Canadian so meets RO. Boarding to Canada will be a problem. He has to go over land boarder on the way in.

Yes thank-you for reply. He was going to go via plane. Not concerned about residency as he's married to a CDN. So the CDN PR card is needed to fly on plane even though he isn't resident there? Oh boy, not good news....

Yes not needed to leave the country but will need a valid PR card to enter via air.
