Hello,
I have a question which is concerning me all the time. I have applied for admission in Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering in Canadian University. I hope that I will get the admission letter from this university, but currently I am unemployed and I have about 2.5 years past work experience. Do Canadian Visa office really concern about my unemployment? What are the chances that they raise this issue?? My age is 23 years, and I have done my bachelor's in 2013.

Thank you.

I’m also going to apply for a study permit soon and I’m so afraid it will be rejected due to not having any work experience.
I’ve been raising my children for 8 years and would like to jump start my career by studying .
Do you think I have a chance ??

@Orange4923 that's a lot of gap since completing your bachelor in 2013, the VO will be curious to know what you have been doing throughout the 5yrs after school, and which country you from?

You said you have a work experience of about 2.5yrs, its good but that won't really convince the VO because he would wonder lots of things like why did you stop or did you stop to pursue another program?

with your 5yrs gap, the VO will eventually think you should be working or must have been doing another program outside your B.sc(cause you're quite very young) with gap

You have no worries though, your chances are still very good, just prepare a strong SOP to convince the VO in whatever you've have done and I will advise you not to rush in filling any information without proper information.

Make this forum your Facebook page... if possible get any job again to fill up your work experience

Thanks for the positive vibes.
I have graduated in 2007 ( to correct you)
I worked briefly but as I got married soon after and left to Dubai ( I’m Egyptian) I got pregnant.. 5 years later baby number 2 and 4 years later... no one wants to hire me with zero experience.
It’s tough to get a job in Dubai unless you’re from ( UK/AUS/US/CANADA)
If I were to get ANY diploma/ certificate from Canada or US that would give my Resume a priority here in Dubai.
I’m going to work on a very strong SOP
but I just wanted to search for ideas or experiences, people that went through something similar.

Is you husband working?(if yes, does he own his own private business or an employee?, if he owns his personal business then you can easily say you're working with him except if he does not).. his he an Egyptian too or from Dubai?

..or you can say you've been rendering voluntarily services with your past academic knowledge if you can back it up with any documents of worth to cement your claims; before you settled to take care of your children later on after birth.. my opinion though

Well, I have volunteered every summer in Egypt (save the children) and my supervisors will give me references.
I’m trying to get in to the diploma in arts and science with concentration in family studies.
I’m trying to pursue a masters degree in psychology later maybe back in Dubai.
But with the foreign diploma in family studies... it would do wonders for me back in Dubai.

@Zigzag85 I will advise you to go for a post graduate diploma(I guess you have already completed a first degree program) and a more significant course otherwise you might be rejected a study permit by the VO for course irrelevance

What was your previous course?

I hold a bachelors degree in Media Sciences but this was 2007, wirked for a year and hated it I started volunteering in shelters for child care and teaching ever since ( on and off ) after raising 2 children which took a couple of years ... I’m looking to jump start my career. Here in Dubai a foreign diploma will do wonders for your career even if you have no experience what so ever.
I’m looking into child psychology or early childhood education or child and youth care and later maybe go for a masters degree.
I can easily apply for a 2D / 3D post graduate course but that’s not what I want.

I will still advise you trend carefully when choosing a course, it might not be a barrier in securing an admission from a school but it might be a deciding factor to a VO when reviewing your application

You can go for another decisive course with much strong convincing insight to the VO, and you can easily switch your course when you get to Canada

My advise and opinion though

I will take your advice, I’m also going to try to contact the university and ask if I can change my choice of study.
Thanks for replying back.

Hey John,

What do you feel about my case.

Graduated with Masters in Electrical enginering -USA- 2009
Worked for 7 years as Business Analyst in USA for 7 years on H1B. i visited india back and forth in that time period.
Currently in India. Wanting to get an MBA since I want to progress in my career next to Business Analyst is Management and director positions. An MBA is always sought after for those positions, So i want to pursue MBA from a really good university in Canada and come back to India and work in Management.

Let me know what you think.

In My Opinion, your previous Masters and that of your recent intended Masters are totally different which could be a course/program mismatch

But, you can still use your 7yrs work experience as a powerful weapon because the VOs are looking for either a student go for a program that matches/relates with their previous studies or their work experience

SOP is a bridge between getting accepted or refused because it relates your thoughts on your behalf to the VOs.. so, trying to start constructing a really good SOP with an actual and good convincing fact about while going for a management course instead of engineering

State your points with brevity and make you paint a very clear picture for the VO to buy into your reasons for switching fields
