hi everyone

i have quietly used this forum to help my husband and i through our canadian visa sponsor application and everyone is so knowledgeable. hopefully i can get some help with this too.

some back story:
my now husband, an american, got a DUI ten years ago and we've tried to go through the canadian border together but he has been denied entry even with all his 'rehabilitation' papers. so i came down and we spontaneously got married. i'm waiting for him to be able to come back to canada with me so i'm not leaving him here (if i did, i have way overstayed my visit so i wont be allowed back in the states anyway). so this leaves him having to pay 100% of our bills and me twiddling my thumbs anxiously all day.

I sent our spousal sponsorship application for him to be allowed into canada back in november. he sent in his enhanced driver license... I could have sworn that was accepted in place of a passport. we have gotten our application back and it's been deemed incomplete due to no passport. they also asked us to follow the feb 2018 checklist from now on and didn't mention the full amount we paid already.

questions:
1. do we have to redo all our paperwork to fit the 2018 one? they don't specify
2. is there any way to get this visa process expedited? it feels like an eternity having to wait another year
3. is there a phone number or email to contact them? i can't find anything anywhere. the canadian website is confusing.
4. do i have to repay them? i have my receipt but if i redo all my 2017 paperwork to fit the new 2018 guidelines, something/numbers might not match?

hope i made some sense. i'm super overwhelmed. any advice is welcomed and very appreciated.

Hi

No, an enhanced driver's license is not acceptable in place of a passport.

1. You need to follow the current checklist. Many forms have been updated since November, so you need to fill those out again.

2. No.

3. No point in contacting anyone. Just re-submit your app.

4. You can use the same receipt.

thanks for the help!

also, i posted this elsewhere but i would appreciate your answer too :

i ended up getting my 2017 application sent back because i did not include my american spouses passport and the 2018 checklist is pretty different. i am the sponsor and he's the PA btw. the main thing i noticed is #4 on the official check list: police certificates it says:

"You (the principal applicant), and any family members 18 or older (who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents), must submit police certificates from the following country or countries with your application"

this has left me so confused. we do not have any kids for reference. does my husband submit his police certificates? he has a lot of siblings that all are american and this makes it seem like every member of the family needs to send this info in as well. which would be impossible. it's not clear to me but maybe i'm over thinking it?!

Yes, your husband needs to submit his PCCs.

He submits his police certificate, his siblings don't need to.

When it says "any family members 18 or older" it referring to your family between you and your spouse. Not your spouse's siblings/parents.
Since you don't have children 18 or older then your spouse is the only one that needs a PCC.
