I have seen many threads here discussing about leaving Canada for months or years, immediately after applying. My question is different. My wife has a sudden requirement to travel out of country for 15 days. I am planning and trying to send application before that.

This is what I saw on CIC website FAQ:

" Can I leave Canada after I mail my citizenship application?
Yes. You can leave Canada after we receive your application."

What does they mean by saying "receive" ? I may be able to mail the package two days before she leaves. So, mostly they will receive it before that. But we don't know it can be delayed by a day or so!

My question is :

Does the word "receive" really a matter? Or, CIC don't really mean it literally? Leaving two days after mailing should be good? Purolator says they can deliver next day if sent by air. Fedex will take one more day. I am mailing from Ontario.

(I will be in Canada itself and she will be checking email etc. So we will not miss any communication from CIC. I dont prefer to delay the application unnecessarily by another two weeks and create one more entry in Travel History. That's why.)

Friends,please advise. Thanks in advance

IRCC staff will sign for the envelope and then won't open it for weeks, as they process applications that were delivered before.
She'll be fine.

(I assume they write "receive" in case there's mail delivery issues or so, but there's no administrative reason for them to actually make the distinction. Of course, the signing date on the application should be for a day she's at home, as she can't have signed something on a day she wasn't in the location where the letter was sent from.)

Sure. Her travelling date will be two days after signing date and mailing it.

Thanks :)

Should be no problem. 2 weeks isn't that long. And since you'll be checking mail and she will be checking e-mail, should be no problem

Why do people freak out about small things like this? Nothing will happen on the application in two weeks and even if it did, OP is there to get the mail. Sometimes, it is OK to R-E-L-A-X.

This very forum is the reason why people freak out. It is full of urban myths and full of unnecessary comparisons. Look at all these spreadsheets and if a Feb 9th applicant got AOR but you are Feb 8th and didn't get it, people in this forum freak out.

Despite all its benefits it is undeniable that this forum also has some serious negative mental health effects. I don't mean this as a joke, I'm being serious.
