Hi guys,

I've done a ton of research and read the forum but still feel uncertain. Any advice would be appreciated.

My PR card expired and I have applied for a new one, I just haven't received it yet. I have UK passport. My new job requires me to travel a lot and I have two work trips coming up in the next week, and probably many more to come.

In short, my flights are booked out of Pearson and returning through Buffalo border by car rental. Will I encounter any issues?

In more detail - I have a flight booked out of Pearson and uncertain they will let me leave on my flight. Will the airline give me a boarding pass and will customs allow me to leave with an expired PR card? I have a flight booked back to Buffalo and plan on going through the border with a car rental. Do you think I will have any issues?

While I come back through the buffalo border, would I be able to get a travel document for my next trip? Can you get a multiple pass entry? Has anyone ever done that before?

Appreciate it!!

What you have planned is fine. You will have no issues leaving Canada with an expired car and can re-enter via a land border in a rental vehicle.

Border officials cannot issue a PR Travel Document. So that's a no-go. You can only apply for a TD while you are outside of Canada and should expect 1-2 weeks of processing time. PRTDs are typically single entry. Application details here:

Airlines don't care about your status in Canada. They only care about your status as it applies to the country you're visiting, so will just be based on your passport and if you need a visa for the country you're flying to.

There is no customs to pass through when leaving Canada.

As long as you continue to re-enter Canada on each trip by land border, there is no need to get a PR Travel Document. PR TD is solely for purpose of boarding an airplane directly to Canada.
