Canadian Citizenship application (for Adults and Minor) questions

Merry Christmas and Happy new year. This forum has been very useful in knowing useful information and members in particular who answer the questions.

I have few questions (I must acknowledge that application is very straightforward and instruction guide is very useful) in regards to Citizenship application (for both Adult and Minor) that I came across. We (myself, my spouse and Child) are applying together, but using our own individual forms.

1. "From Date" to "To Date": for example for work history if I am still working at the same place since 01-01-2010 to Date. Should I say "Till Date" or "Present" or write down today's date in "To (YYYY-MM) section

2. I have master's degree from US, will that be enough to prove Language evidance. Judging by application guide, it seems to be enough.

3. Section 9(E), I have never used LINC and neither attaching it's result, so should I choose "NO" as answer.

(Minor Citizenship application)

4. On Minor's Citizenship application under section 8(D) it asks for Parent's "Citizenship Certificate number" and "Date of Certificate", as neither myself nor my spouse are Canadian Citizen (matter of fact we all are applying together), should I indicate "N/A" for thouse fields?

6. On Minor's Citizenship application under section 11, it asks for Parent's (assume one parent) signature and also child's (14 yrs or old) signature, since my child is under 14, should I leave it blank or print N/A

2. The degree should be completed and should state the same on degree itself. It should be accepted but it all depends upon CIC officer that whether he accepts it or not. (I don't know their criteria about what they accept as a language proof) Once they open the file and they will determine.
All I can say is degrees done in USA/Canada should not be a problem.

3. Write N/A on it.

1. I put in TO DATE (for work, address), but I see it works PRESENT too.
2. If you have a master from US, and not coming from an english native country, I would imagine you had passed TOEFL.

Ad 1. If you are filling your forms on the computer, you might have to use the current date (my pdf accepted only digits in this field). So, if you're applying this month simply type 2014-12. That's what I did. If you're filling it by hand, you can write "present".
Ad 2. If it's a completed MSc from the US (or Canadian) academic institution, then a diploma is sufficient.
Ad 3. N/A.
Ad 4. N/A
Ad 5(6). N/A.

I was able to type in text when I filled my application in the computer. I typed 'Present'.

And another suggestion just have your applications checked by a volunteer who helps citizenship applicants. They are usually available in your local library. I did check my applications with them. They were able to point few mistakes.

I couldn't save the form after the warning. Good that CIC changed that. Present or current date is fine. I didn't have any problems after using the current date.

one last question, in the minor's citizenship application section (11) --> sign "Parent's Signature", does both parents need to sign or whoever is filling application and Parent whose name appears in section (4), I am inclined towards later as it makes sense.

I am applying for my son. In the form sec 4 b is a question Is he leally adopted . What would be the answer yes or no. I am confused . Please help me to solve this confution.

I believe only one parent needs to sign the application. If there is any concern about custody (where parents are separated or divorced) IRCC needs to know that the parent who has custody consents to this application, so that is the parent who has to sign the application. You can (but it is not required) add a letter signed by the second parent consenting to this application, so IRCC has that information on file. Is your son adopted or not? If he is, then you would need to say yes (and send a photocopy of adoption order). If he is not, then you would say no (and send a birth certificate). The document you are sending proves the relationship between the parent and the child.

A basic description of what adoption is can be found at https://www.adoption.on.ca/what-is-adoption (and on many other sites, some offering much more detail), but in short it is where people who are not the biological parents of a child take on the role and responsibilities of parents, and the biological parents lose those rights and responsibilities.
