Hello Guys,

This is the 9th time I have given my IELTS and every time I have received 0.5 less either in my writing or speaking because of which I am unable to get my desired CRS, I am confident and have achieved better scores in my previous attempts.

EOR submitted for Speaking and Writing on 26th November
L 8.5
R 8
S 6.5

Do you think that the score will get improved in writing by 0.5 which i need. It is super stressful because of IELTS, dont know what these guys are up to.
Must be stressful indeed!

Hey guys,

I just received my IELTS results R8.5 L8.5 S7.5 W6.5
I have done two TOEFL exams with 26/30 and 28/30 for writing. I cannot understand this low number on IELTS writing. I need at least 7. Do you think it'll get better if I request a re-mark?

Hi all,

Really happy to hear of so many success stories with remarking! And sorry for those who applied but didn’t get an upward revision :(

I just got my scores: LRSW: 8.5, 9, 8 and 6.5. I’m really disappointed with my writing score and never expected less than a 7.5 or a 7 at worst. Can anyone advise me if it’s worth going in for a revaluation? I appeared through BC and they have been really supportive and helpful so far.

Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!

You can go ahead for a re-evaluation if you’re confident that you did better. However, with BC it’s normally a wait of 8-12 weeks till you get a decision on your request. All the best with your plans

Thanks @iamhammad! I’m thinking that if the EoR takes upto 12 weeks, it might make sense to take a retest as well. I’ll sit for my second IELTS in April first week, and get my revaluation results as well as new test results around the same time then ;)
Keeping my fingers crossed this strategy works out! And thanks again for the tips and best wishes :)

Hi @mehrshadg,

I’m in the same boat as you! The writing test appears to have been a serious setback for many of us, from the looks of it :( I took my test through BC and will apply for a remark tomorrow itself. At the same time, given it could take upto 12 weeks for the EoR results to come through, I also plan to retake the test in April.
In case you did yours through IDP, the remark appears to be a faster process, so you can wait and watch before you pay for a retest. I’m sure you’ll be better off applying for a remark, and best of luck to you with the results! :)

Got my BC IELTS results yesterday.
L 8
R 9
W 6.5
S 8.5

Disappointed with my writing scores.
Will be requesting for EoR. I will share the result once I get it.
It would suck to give the exam again just because of 0.5 less in writing.

Hi @Valdogarcia ,
I'm sorry to hear the Writing score is standing in the way of your plans too! Completely agreed that it sucks to give all 4 sections all over again for want of a 0.5 increment in writing :(
I have applied today through my local centre (British Council, Mauritius), but they informed me the request would only go out on Monday and can take upto 12 weeks. I understand the time taken since it goes to an international examiner, but am keeping my fingers crossed that the time, effort and money are well spent.
Best of luck to you! Do share your experiences here :)

Hopefully this will work out well. I relied on EOR initially as I didn’t want to retake the test but eventually there wasn’t any change in the score. Now I am planning to sit again in April.

BC system for EOR is horrible from what I have observed over this thread. IDP on the other hand is taking just around 2 weeks.

I applied for eor last January 5. Received an email from IDP on wednesday that result is ready. Got the mail today. Good news is my writing score increased from 6.0 to 6.5 and I will get a refund. Bad news is i still need to retake ielts since i need 7.0 in all bands. Took 7 weeks.

Old score
Lrsw - 9.0 8.5 8.0 6.0

New score
Lrsw - 9.0 8.5 8.0 6.5

Fingers crossed for the re-mark! And yes, it is sad to hear yours didn’t go as expected :( I’m sure you’ll crack the April exam - best of luck :)

Guess you too feel the same as I do about the Writing test. I have the same score and the same gut feeling that my performance was better than a 6.5. I would say, “Go for it!”. I paid a fee of Rs 3165 in Mauritius to get my paper rechecked (a lil under USD 100) and I’m fine if the score stays the same and I don’t get a refund - as long as I know I deserved better and listened to my gut instinct. Hope money isn’t a constraint for you - or time, considering it takes upto 12 weeks for the result to come. My BC test center told me it’s 10 weeks to check the paper at the examiner’s end, but 2 weeks get added on because of the time taken to send the papers and receive the revised TRF. If you did yours through IDP, you’ll be relatively better off. They can be as quick as 2 weeks, and their slowest is 7 weeks which still beats BC hollow! Do consider sitting for a retest as well, so you can use those (hopefully better!) scores if the old one comes back unchanged. Im dreading this outcome so much that I booked myself for an April test and will keep trying to better my writing skills in the meantime :)

I am thinking of EOR for speaking and writing both. If one of it is improved i will get my cash back. What say you?
