How long is it usually after the day you mail the application, to get AOR? I know they request medical and police cert soon after. I am just wondering when I should request my background check from the USA.

Also will I need a police cert for my time in canada since I have been here for over 6 months? I hear conflicting things

Usually it takes about 8 weeks to get your AOR. You should request your police certificate from USA asap. It takes about 14-16 weeks to get one. As for now FBI is processing early October requests. So sooner your send your request is better.

Medical requests are taking a long time, in the inland thread June applicants still haven't got medical requests so well over 6 months. We are August and waiting but not expecting med request anytime soon given June is still waiting, but hopefully they start picking up speed again soon.

The general opinion here is you don't need a police certificate for Canada upfront as they can do their own checks, but you may be asked for RCMP fingerprinting later in the process but not everyone does, just wait and see.

Send your FBI request ASAP. DO NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO REQUEST IT!! You'll only end up delaying your application if you wait for them to request it because its a 16 week wait for police certs from USA. The FBI certificates do not expire so don't worry about trying to extend the validity of it by waiting last minute to get them.

You do not need to get a Canadian PCC. They will do this themselves. They may ask you to submit fingerprints, but do not send anything unless they specifically request you to do so.

As always, check the website. PCCs are valid indefinitely if you don't return to that country.

• are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
• have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

The FBI has a list of approved 3rd party companies that you may use to get your results back faster (typically 1-3 weeks). These companies do charge a fee that is over and above what the FBI processing fee is.

US citizens and US PRs qualify to use this channeler service.
