Hello, anyone here kind enough to share their knowledge on this matter...

If I apply for a supervisa for my mom, and just in case she get refused (knock on wood), is there a possibility that she will be granted a regular visit visa instead?
Or if not, how long after her supervisa application refusal can she apply for a regular visit visa?

Thank you!

Hi everyone! I can’t believe I am back writing on this forum. It has been 2.5 years ago since we got our PR (July 2015)...feels like it was only yesterday. God is good!!!

So I guess next step for us is to invite our parent(s). I need your advice(s) specially from those who also invited their parents regardless if approved or denied. We’re still trying to assess whether we should apply Supervisa or just the regular TRV for my mother-in-law (MIL). So far these are her family ties - 1. My FIL will not be travelling this time with her so she has a husband to go back to 2. She is an active Church parish member and involve in activities and parish will issue a certificate 3. She has money in the bank 4. She has land/real estate property. Only issue I can see is that she has not travelled for more than 10 years - usually just local ones.

Now why Supervisa? We are thinking that this will have greater chance of approval based on what I read but not 100% guaranteed I know that. We have met all the supervisa requirements as inviters so no issue on that part as well but I believe the basis of approval for both TRV and supervisa would be the invitee’s strong ties with his/her home country.

Money wise, supervisa is really expensive e.g medical exam and medical insurance.

She is by the way just planning to stay for 5-6 months but if she likes it here, supervisa will give her flexibility to extend.

Thank you for reading and hope to hear from you soon!!!

Regular TRV is for everyone, SV is only for parents/grandparents of a Canadian citizen or PR.
Another difference is regular TRV doesn't require medical insurance/test, SV requires it.
In my case, I applied for my mom's regular TRV first and got denied so fast lol because of no strong ties to home country, financial & travel history. So I applied for SV, costly because of medical insurance/test, but, she is unemployed, all her children are in Canada, no recent travel abroad, approved, she is here with me since December 10th.

@adelosreyes you parent might get denied because of travel history, but it's your choice if you want to apply TRV first.

Thank you for your response to my inquiry @pie_vancouver may I ask if you changed any documents or information from your mom’s TRV application to Supervisa? I thought both should require strong ties so I wonder if you changed anything with her SV application. Thanks.

The trv app was long time ago, so I redid all the forms and sometimes IRCC update the forms,
I know they have the same forms, in the main app form, if it's super visa, in purpose of travel, you should pick super visa, the other choices are tourism, business etc I think.
IMO, without reference to any troubles on going in someone's country (economic situation), the main thing they look at is the income requirement of the child and then the medical test of the parents.

Thank you. Good to hear. How long was the processing time for Manila? Also, i asked someone to call IOM / panel physician in Manila and they asked for cic notification. I sent them an email to clarify that it is an upfront medical so we are unable to provide any forms from CIC. I also copied and pasted excerpts from the website. Please advise if you still remember the process for medical test. Thanks!

My mom didn't do upfront medical, CIC requested medical test after one week of submission.
Processing times could be 0-4 months or more depends on the medical test.

Thank you. Did you apply online? If yes, do you know if I can use my login information and apply for my mother in law? Also - What did you provide as proof for purpose of travel?

I applied online, not sure on the login, I created an account with my mom's email address that I can access, I was also her representative, I think what matters are the forms and the supporting documents you submit online.
Proof of purpose of travel, is that the itenerary?
I created a word doc:
xx - date of arrival
xx to xx - will be staying in our place - address
xx - date of departure
I didn't buy a plane ticket yet.
