How to fill out application form

Hi everyone. I am trying to fill out the application forms I just downloaded off the immigration canada website. I am able to open it and fill in some of the boxes, but some of them turn grey. Does that mean I do not need to fill them out? Or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, that's what's supposed to happen. Some questions especially on the generic 0008 form are N/A depending on answers to other questions.

Thank you! One more question, when I validate the form it says to print it and sign it unless I'm submitting online. I haven't seen anything previously about submitting online. Do you have any experience on if it's better to submit online or in person?

We submitted a paper application. I don't know anything about doing it online or if it's even an option for spousal sponsorships. Again, that 0008 form is used for many different immigration application types and online may apply to those only.

So sorry - one other thing. If something doesn't apply to me and the box doesn't grey out is it ok to put N/A in the box?

For example, it asks if any other people are financially dependent on me. I have no one to support. I'm not sure how to answer.

N/A would be the right answer. By the way, submitting the application online is not an option. Later on you can submit a specific form online, called Schedule A, which you can sign electronically by just typing the name.
