Travel Ban - PR status

Hey guys,
I could'nt find a better spot for this thread
I was wondering if any one was aware of any cases that were PRs of Canada (with a citizenship affected by the travel ban) and succeeded in getting a B1/B2 visa under the travel ban?

I was going to make an application to present my research at a scientific conference. Would appreciate your thoughts/experiences on this

I don't believe that your Canadian immigration status will provide you with any advantage.

This is sad. Do possessing a canadian passport enable a person born on a country included in the ban pass a port of entry?

I read a news before about a lady from East who rode to a border entry maybe in New York with friends who where stopped because of racial profiling. Her friends are able to enter.

Whether someone is allowed to enter the US or not is ultimately up to US immigration border officials. So unfortunately there's really no black and white answer.

The only PR status that matters with respect to the travel ban is the PR status of the United States.

If you are a citizen of one of the affected countries, and are a green card holder, then the ban would not affect you (at least on paper). John Kelly deemed the acceptance of these LPRs to be a matter of 'national interest' (if you ever need proof of the difference between how the US treats its PRs and Canada treats its PRs, this is one).

Canadian permanent residents who are also citizens of one of the affected countries would be affected by the ban, and would not be able to travel.

If I'm not mistaken, dual citizens may be able to apply for a visa, provided they hold citizenship from countries which are not affected (say, you are a dual citizen of Iran and Turkey, then you can apply for the B2 visa using your Turkish passport).

Yes, decision is up to the border officer if they’ll grant entry or not those who originated from countries listed on the ban.

Too bad though, but politically, these bans will force leaders of those nations to get in line. Because their own citizens and children who fonders of entering the US for tourists, business, or study are affected.

Country =/= race.

Always learn the rules of the country you're traveling to before going. Better your chances. The US isn't Canada. They are a sovereign country that has their own rules.

People who don't bother or think they're entitled enter another country wind up surprised when things go south. Their problem to deal with. Respect the country you're entering and do your diligence.

actually as a PR you're eligible for a waiver from (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/presidential-proclamation-archive/2017-12-04-Presidential-Proclamation.html) it says:

Are there special rules for permanent residents of Canada?

Waivers may not be granted categorically to any group of nationals of the eight countries who are subject to visa restrictions pursuant to the Proclamation, but waivers may be appropriate in individual circumstances, on a case-by-case basis. The Proclamation lists several circumstances in which case-by-case waivers may be appropriate. That list includes foreign nationals who are Canadian permanent residents who apply for visas at a U.S. consular section in Canada. Canadian permanent residents should bring proof of their status to a consular officer.

A consular officer will carefully review each case to determine whether the applicant is affected by the Proclamation during each phase of the implementation and, if so, whether the applicant qualifies for an exception or a waiver.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a PR of Canada, originally from one of the countries on the Travel Ban list. I recently applied for B1 visa to attend a job interview in US. Being a PR made a difference, as the officer decided to evaluate my eligibility for a waiver. The day after my interview, he sent me a list of questions along with a police clearance check request from RCMP. While I may get the visa in the next few months, I had to cancel my job interview, as the visa may not be issued any time soon, if at all. Hope this helps.

What's the current situation with Travel Ban and PR holders citizens of the affected countries?
Would a PR holder, citizen of an affected country (like Iran) be able to apply for a Visa given the PR status? I'm a bit unclear on the "waiver", is this something that has to be requested before the interview, or granted at the time of the interview by the officer?
