Applying for Citizenship and Leaving Canada

Hi,

I am a current PR which will expire in around 2 years (I have spent almost all of the last 3 years in Canada excl some trips back to the UK).

Once I hit the 1095 days I will apply for my citizenship however I am due to leave the country and take up a position in the UK. As long as I still have a correspondence address in Canada and I am able to return for the citizenship ceremony assume this is acceptable? Anyone think of any logistical/CBSA issues that might stop this?

As long as you can receive their correspondence, appear in test/interview and oath, I don't see any problems. I also think the residence requirement is 2 years out of 5, so you can spend 3 years out of Canada and still fulfill that requirement. As long as you have a valid PR card, why wouldn't CBSA let you in? You can even apply for a PR travel document in case the PR card is lost or expired.

I also think the residence requirement is 2 years out of 5, so you can spend 3 years out of Canada and still fulfill that requirement. Just to be clear if my PR expires whilst in the UK but I have been in Canada min 2 years out of any 5 year period prior I could seek a PR travel document to return? Do you know what the entry restrictions are on a typical PR Travel document i.e how long its valid for or is it case specific?

Yeah you can apply for PRTD as long as you have good PR status, i.e. maintaining residence requirement. The PRTD could be a one-entry document as they want to you get a PR card once you enter Canada with it. I never applied for it but I'm sure CIC's website has info regarding that and how long it's valid.
