Hi everyone!
I am about to send my PR application (Inland Common Law), and I have a question regarding security clearance (the one people need to work in the Canadian Government).

During the process of the PR application , when is it possible to apply for security clearance?
After I get PR, I would like to apply for SC through an HR agency. As a landed immigrant, how long does it usually take?

I am sure 100% that people with Permanent Residency can work in GVT, but I am a bit confused about the timeline... thank you!

To obtain any meaningful security clearance, you need to have been a PR or citizen for 5 years. Exceptions to this do exist however. See https://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/esc-src/personnel/information-eng.html, https://www.csis-scrs.gc.ca/scrtscrnng/index-en.php and http://ottawa.ca/cs/groups/content/@webottawa/documents/pdf/mdaw/mtkx/~edisp/cap201212.pdf for example. Note that clearance is something that an employer will need to initiate. It's not something that you can request.

1. The OP should note that most Federal Civil Services jobs require that citizens are given priority.

Hi! Thank you for your answers. I am aware of the nature of those jobs, as I deal with them on a daily basis. I am not sure about security clearance though.
