Hello everyone,
To begin with, I just want to say that I have been a resident in Canada for almost 11 years, and due to a near constant quagmire of stupidity and neglect from my Lawyer, I have not been able to obtain a citizenship due to an extreme delay in obtaining my permanent residency (He assured me it would be the first quarter of 2011 at one point, but the application never left his office until 2012 and even then his neglect was legendary to the point that the government contacted me directly instead of speaking to. I never heard a word from him regarding ANY of my applications). I obtained my PR in 2014 and due to the recent change in law, I was technically eligible to apply for citizenship as of Oct 2017. I have not been able to submit my application due to one issue that occurred during the extreme delay in obtaining my permanent residency and my lawyer's near constant neglect.
I arrived in Canada as a student, I graduated in 2010 and I obtained a temporary work permit that was due to expire in July, 2013. My lawyer assured me that it would all be taken care of in the time from July, 2013 to Jan 31st, 2014 when my work permit expired and I had no idea what my status is. He told me I had 'implied status' but apparently an extension of my work permit or temporary residency was rejected (likely because I was accepted as a PR, and I just had to make my landing, which I did on Feb 1st, 2014), but then he told me that from the time from July 23rd, 2013 to Jan 31st 2014 I had 'no status' in Canada.
The problem with this is, that in the field that is asking for my status from the before I got my permanent residency, the fiels list Visitor, Temporary Worker, International student, Temporary Resident Permit Holder, and Protected Person. None of these fit my description.
What do I put in this field? I've been trying to get an answer for this question for months and it is extremely frustrating. I don't want any problems with my citizenship application and I'm honestly tired of all the delays that have happened. I would have been a citizen as early as 2015 or 2016 if my lawyer wasn't so negligent.
