Hi,
I need someone to clarify to me the best practices about insurance. I am landing in Toronto in a month. As far as I know, one is not covered by OHIP for 3 months after landing. Therefore even if you submit the documents for insurance on the day one, they will still only start processing you after 3 months. But how long does the processing take? Right now it looks like I won't be covered by insurance for 3 months plus unspecified amount of time they will process my application. However I need to somehow estimate the total duration to buy insurance and I need input from seniors:
  • when does the actual coverage start?
  • how long does it take to get the insurance once 3 months wait time is over?
  • what do people do: buy insurance for 3,4 or some other amount of months?
Thanks in advance everyone!

i'm going to buy 3 months travel insurance before i fly from India. you can also buy it from there before you land. just google and you should find a lot of providers.

Thank you! That's what I'm planning to do. However my question was is 3 months travel insurance enough. To put it differently, do I become automatically insured after 3 months?
