Hi friends,

Please Help considering my situation:
I have got the PPR when I was single and I have not yet landed. I recently got married and I am going add my wife to my profile. Please let me know if what should be the surname of my wife on the marriage certificate. Her name before marriage was ABC xyz before marriage and her name now is ABC sss and her name on passport is still ABC xyz. will it be beneficial to get marriage certificate with ABC sss or ABC xyz or only ABC?
Get the marriage certificate with the name that matches with passport name.
In this scenario, you don't have to provide explanation regarding name change for spouse.

I recommend to get it with ABC xyz.

yeay we finally got our visa and COPR, but the COPR showed my status as single still although there was a remark at the bottom that my spouse will be accompanying. My spouse's COPR shows as married. Will mine be a problem?

Yes. spouse can be added to you application any day before landing. However, it is not optional for you to decide whether to add spouse or not.
In case there is any change to your status during the PR application, and this includes the time after COPR and before landing, you MUST notify VO of the changes. Failing to do so amounts to misrepresentation. If you get married and decide to land without notifying VO, then you will not be able to sponsor your spouse later.
Also, when you notify the VO about your newly married status, they will essentially cancel the VISA and COPR they granted you, and issue new ones for both you and spouse after due process.
They've replied to me also. Sent me a letter with a full list of the additional documents/requirements. Was asked to return COPR and passport to them to cancel them.

Given only 7 days to submit. Glad I prepared everything beforehand. Surprisingly, they haven't asked for updated POF - guess that comes in next stages? Weird.
Hi,

I am in similar situation. Got COPR but getting married before landing. Can you pls share the steps on how to notify the VO ?

I have to inform VO through any specific email id or through MyCIC account? PLs share the steps. Thanks!!

You can notify through Case specific form and/or email to your Visa Office about the martial status change.

What ever you do, don't land with the current COPR. Regardless of sending a CSE or e-mail, you need to return the COPR to be revised. Too many people get caught out when they don't. You will need to add your wife to the application and wait for it to be processed before you land.

Ok thanks. 1 more query which i am confused about- whether to send mail to CPC Ottawa or raise CSE through IRCC webform? Procedure is same for both the options or different? Both options are faster ? Both have their own pros & cons also OR is it one and the same ?

I did both.
For me email to Ottawa was pretty quick. They responded in 2-3 days.

Both options are same - notifying CIC about the status change. One is quick (Email to Ottawa in general).

In chelseafc99 case, CoPR is no longer valid (due to change in marital status). Inform the border security office while landing, about the change in marital status and continue to be worker in Canada until the issuance of new CoPR.

I dont know the answer to your question @allthebest90.
Thanks a ton Bud.
So in summary: I get married overseas, inform Ottawa on the same day. They will ask for my passport back along with COPR + request spouse documents.
Then I can travel to Canada using passport, tell them hey i got married and have to return my passport+COPR to ottawa and that i will use my work visa to enter canada and remain as worker.
Is this a valid summary? I've heard that my work visa is invalid if i get PR visa but maybe it becomes invalid IF i land. I hope you can clarify this.

Also: Do you know if there is a deadline when to return the passport back to Ottawa? I can plan my trip accordingly then
Thanks so much!

I apologize for not mentioning beforehand but I'm also planning on getting married :). Do I get less questions if my status changes resulting in my CoPR getting invalidated?
Hey. Are you also planning to get married overseas..if so when? we can share our timelines as we proceed i guess.

Thanks. Can you pls tell me approx. how much time it takes for CIC to complete this process and issue new COPR for both assuming all docs are in order ?

Thats right, Work visa becomes invalid only if you land on PR visa.

After notifying Ottawa VO, they will provide guidelines. I am not sure about the deadlines to return COPR.

I submitted spouse docs on Nov 2nd and waiting (FYI- I didn't receive CoPR previously).

I don't know how long it might takes. Other person in this forum, who had CoPR before adding spouse took 2 months to issue new CoPR's.
so my speculation is, it might be around 2-4 months.
