Hello everyone, I have a quick question to ask. I have booked ticket to Canada during Christmas from Dec 24th to Jan 4th long time ago, but I have got PPR email today which is too much faster than what I expect. So it makes my travel plan a bit confused right now. In the PPR email, the deadline for submitting passport says 30 days. However, I really prefer to mail my passport after I come back to United States after Christmas (in case if i cant receive my passport on time before flight time) , but it is gonna be 1 week later than the deadline date. I have already submit an web form to inform CIC about the 1 week delay , just wanna make sure Is that ok to do that? Will i get into trouble because of that? I do not wanna screw up at the last last step. The original date I have planned to landing is next year on September, not this Christmas. Thank you very much for helping!

Just to double check... are you from a visa-exempt country? I think I remember reading you lived in the US but don't have a US passport... but if you have any kind of visa-exempt passport, you just need to mail in a photocopy, not the actual passport.

Unfortunately no, I would be so happy if I do not need to mail my passport : (.. . I am worried right now, coz Christmas is closer and I do not want to suffer risk to miss my flight because of it...

What you did is totally fine and many people have done it before. Just wait for a response and you will most likely get a 30 day extension to send you passport(s). You can also send an email to CPC Ottawa (CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca) asking for the same just in case. Good Luck!

Hello everyone, So I got the response from CIC-OTTAWA, and they denied my extension request, here is what they replied:

"Should there be an extenuating circumstance (such as a death in the family or medical emergency) for which you can provide evidence, we will do our best to expedite the processing in our office based on the claim. Please be advised that we will not consider requests that are not of an extenuating circumstance, such as vacation or pre-arranged flights."

Based on it, I have decided to just mail everything on Monday to Ottawa. The mailing instruction for applicants who live in United States is following:

"If you have a mailing address in the U.S.A.:

- The Self-Addressed pre-paid envelope should be arranged with a courier that delivers between Canada and the U.S.A "

So I wonder which post office is the best choice to use? and should I put my address on the pre-paid envelope, too ? Thank you again for your help!
