Hi hello,
this is Katharina. I am a German student here at Carleton University currently - due to various difficulties I met in the last three months trying to focus on a qualifying year I am currently considering to withdraw from my studies.

At the same time: before I applied for the study permit, I had already been granted a working holiday work permit that is valied to be activated until 17 Jan 2018.
My study permit was granted to me on 27 August - and this is the with which I entered Canada on 8 September. Now, I am in discussiong about the withdrawal.

One of the questions I need to clarify is about my immigration status in Canada. I would like to CHANGE my status.
I already know - since August - that a working holiday work permit and a study permit can be held at the same time. I wonder, the day that I receive my confirmation of withdrawal from my course, leaving Canada - re-entering I wish to use my working holiday work permit that, as I said can be activated until 17 Jan.

Does anybody have any experience with this?
I do not find ANYTHING about such a case online - no getting through the hotline EVER and I don't know where to turn to.

I need to know whether this reasoning is correct - as once again I cannot seem to find any way to get an appointment with IRCC.

thank you for your information and sharing

Katharina

Your school probably has an RCIC in their international student division or a RISIA. Ask them for precise answer

I'm in the same situation, and I'm going to try exactly what youre thinking here, but later. Please let me know how it goes.

Hello,
I was yesterday at YMCA at Ottawa meeting a representarive from IRCC that gave a workshop on how to stay in Canada legally.

As I am on my German passport, after the university notifies IRCC that I am not a student anymore, I can continue to stay in Canada until the six months' maximum stay are up.

In the meantime, I would have to leave Canada before the deadline of the activation date if my IEC work permit. Once I am arriving again at the border the IEC work permit could be activated. What I assumed I was being told is correct.

And I heard yesterday: upon withdrawal from a course of study in my case no application for change of status to Alberta is nevessary.

Hope this info will help you too.

Hi,
Yes that's true, Sarah Lanouh would be the person at Carleton university. She had responded to me on similar questions in August this year while I was still in China.
However, she is out if office on some kind of leave until the next term in January.
After further looking for answers, I was being recommended to get in touch with YMCA. Seems in Canada that's a great resource for all kinds if support in this situation, too.

Thanks a lot:)

This is completely wrong. You cannot just continue to stay in Canada. 90 days after you stop studying, your study permit will be invalidated and you will be out of status. You would need to actually apply to change your status to visitor while your study permit is still valid.

This is correct. You can flagpole and change your status before your IEC deadline.

Status is federal, so no idea what you mean by changing your status in Alberta. Note that if you currently have AHCIP and you change your status, you need to inform them.
