I'm a US citizen living in Canada, my spouse is sponsoring me and is a Canadian citizen.

So after what feels like half a lifetime I'm being put through what seems like the final steps. I just have a couple questions I'm hoping I can get answered, now more than ever I'm terrified of screwing something up.

1. From what I understand I need to include a photocopy of my passport along with my Annex A, does this photocopy need to be notarized? It made no mention of it but I wouldn't be surprised if it's implied.

2. When I do receive my Conformation of Permanent Residence, what exactly is my next step, will it be explained then? The CIC website has this page, is this what I should do?: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=748&top=22

Thanks again for all the help everyone.

If they asked for your passport I thought you had to send your actual passport for stamping the visa not a photocopy, is this not the case for us citizens?

from what I see on here, if your from usa or other countries that don't need a visa to enter Canada, you usually only send a photocopy.

and congratulations iceye! and what was half a lifetime in terms of timeline? American apps seem to move at warp speed compared to most.

I'd have to say I've been lucky on the timeline front. Here's what I can remember/find1

  1. February 1st 2017: Mailed Application

    May 25th 2017: Application Submitted

September 1st 2017: Medical Check Requested

September 14th 2017: Medical Check submitted electronically

October 21st 2017: Police Check Requested

October 24th 2017: Police Check submitted electronically

November 27th 2017: Passport and Annex A requested

Hope this helps Some! We had a police check ready, which I think saved us a decent amount of time.

Somewhere between may and September a Schedual A was requested and submitted electronically. But I can't find the dates.

Your timeline is exactly like most should look like according the new way. Our medical was requested 1month in and haven’t heard a single thing since it passed.

1. No implication. They would straight up say if it was required to be notarized.

2. You either flagpole at the Canada-US border, make an appointment to land at an inland office or leave the country and return on an international flight.
