Hey guys I'm gettin married in India. I am a UK citizen with a Canadian Pr. Living in Canada for past 15 years. On the Indian visa application it asks me purpose of my visit... should I put getting married or put visiting relatives.

I am applying for the tourist visa... is the tourist visa good for me to get married in India.. can I put I am getting married as purpose of visit under a tourist visa?

Are you getting a regular tourist visa or an e-visa? I got married in India in July via an e-visa. For the e-visa you just need to pick from a list and I put visiting friends and family. There were no issues. I have since applied and received an E-Visa to return in February and in the application that I was married, which was different from the previous application and had to put in my husband's info and there was no issue getting the visa. If you can get an e-visa it's much quicker and easier. You usually get a response in 24 hours or a couple of days and there is a separate place to check in with immigration (at least at the Chennai airport) for immigration.

Not a response but more a question haha. Did you have any issues getting a marriage license in Indian? I did research on marriage licenses and because I'm a foreigner it would take up to 30 days to be able to receive.. So we did the marriage in Canada. I hope my research wasn't false. In the application we explained that was the reason for doing the marriage in Canada and celebration in India..

No problems, I'm not really sure how the license was gotten as my husband's sister took care of all the arrangements. I did send my documents, that had been notarized, verified and authenticated (not sure if all that was really necessary) and everything went smoothly.

Thank you for your reply! Well hmm I just hope the officer doesn't make a remark about us doing it in Canada haha.
I mean I researched and everything was saying I would need to stay in India for 30 days, at minimum. So I just simply explained in the application about this. Anyways we have a marriage certificate in Canada. So it shouldn't matter.
I'm just slightly nervous as we didn't do the traditional Hindu wedding. We did a celebration and went to the temple. We just didn't do the big fat wedding. I'm over thinking it.

I think it depends where you were planning getting married. My husband lives in Chennai and the rules for that stated that only one of the people getting married needed to have the 30 day residency. But I believe in Goa both have to be there for the 30 day residency and 30 day waiting period where the pictures are posted. We were somehow exempted from the picture posting requirement. I'm not sure if it was because we were married under the Christian act or how that was done.

I'm not sure if you have put in your sponsorship application yet but if you haven't include a note as to why you didn't go through the whole Hindu ceremony, stating something to the effect that you could not meet India's residency requirements. I'm sure that will be understood and you did do some parts of the ceremony. I wish you all the best.

Congratulations! You can give any reason for the visit; as long as it is confined to 30 days, there should be no issue.

I won't bother getting all the paperwork for Indian marriage certificate. Your husband can later add your name to his Indian passport whenever he updates his. We sent the "long form" Canadian marriage certificate for that and it was OK.

After your marriage, get an OCI visa which is a lifelong visa for spouses of Indian citizens. I am not sure if this X visa thing is still required (as an intermediate one). But Google for this. https://www.tripsavvy.com/convert-india-spouse-tourist-visa-to-x-visa-1539304
