I don’t think so , would need to sponsor PR application first - but don’t take my word for it, and the answer should be found in CIC websiteA person has just become a canadien citizen. Can his son apply for citizenship, given that the later is not PR and is living in another country?
No. You first need to sponsor your child for PR. Once the child comes to Canada as a PR, you can then apply for his citizenship right away.A person has just become a canadien citizen. Can his son apply for citizenship, given that the later is not PR and is living in another country?
There is no residency requirement for children.I agree that they would need to be sponsored as a resident first, then fulfill the requisite presence requirements before applying for citizenship. Also agree to check the CIC site.
You can only sponsor dependent children.A person has just become a canadien citizen. Can his son apply for citizenship, given that the later is not PR and is living in another country?
But how about children of citizens? Don t they get citizenship by descent ?You can only sponsor dependent children.
Here is the definition from CIC:
Dependent child:
Your child or the child of your spouse or common-law partner can be considered a dependent child if that child meets the requirements below on the day we receive your complete application:
Children 22 years old or older qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:
- They’re under 22 years old, and
- They don’t have a spouse or common-law partner
Dependants must continue to meet these requirements until they enter Canada.
- They have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22, and
- They are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition
If they are born after parent became citizen. But how about children of citizens? Don t they get citizenship by descent ?
