Hello !

I have a question about citizenship application.

CIC instruction guide says:
In the last 4 years, if you spent 183 days or more in another country (other than Canada), you must provide a police certificate.

I came to Canada at 2010.
In 2013 I moved to US for one year.
I was living in US from January 2013 till January 2014.
In February 2014 I came back to Canada.

Totally, I lived in US for 1 year which is more than 183 days.

However, in the last 4 years (October 2013 - October 2017), technically I was in US for 3 months only. This is less than 183 days.

Do I need to provide US police certificate ?

Thank you very much !

You've got your answer. You only need your FBI police certificate if you stay more than 183 days in the last 4 years.

I think that the wisest thing in his case would be for him to submit the citizenship application without the FBI thing, per the technical letter of the instructions/stipulations, but for him to go ahead and apply for an FBI thing anyway, to have running in the background, so that he'd have it up his sleeve right away if CIC/IRCC do write to him specifically to request one. This is what I'd do if I were him, anyhow.

One Quick check about police clearance certificate.

183 or more days spend in last 4 years immediately before the date of application.

I signed my application on 05 Sept 2017 .

So if I count 4 years back from 2017/sept /05 to 2013/sept /05 . I came back to Canada in aug 11 ,2013 since than I never been out of Canada for more than 183 days. I became PR in 2011 but left canada in 2011- Nov and came back in Aug-2013.

Do they still ask for pcc ?

I got my AOR already. I am not sure on this requirement ...can anyone help me on understanding it ?

Thanks

You got your answer. Just go back four years and add up all the days that you were away in different countries. If you stayed in total in one country more than 183 days than you will need a police certificate. But...relax...a friend of mine went to her interview and was told then and there that she needed the police certificate. She submitted it shortly after her interview and now she got her oath invitation with minimal delay.
