Inland application (USA) checklist questions

A bit confused regarding a few aspects of the checklist:

1. The supporting documents for sponsor section of application has section 3, which asks:

"Do you (sponsor) and the person you are sponsoring have (a) child(ren) together who may have a claim to Canadian citizenship?

In our case, we have a son who was born in August 2016. I have a birth certificate and SIN for him, so I am not sure how to answer this. If I answer yes, i have to do more paperwork, which seems counterintuitive since my son is already a Canadian citizen.

2. The supporting documents for sponsored persons (principal applicant and all family members), requires the following; you (the principal applicant) must provide the following (photocopies only) for yourself and your family members....

a. most recently issued passport or travel document for you and all family members (who will accompany you to Canada)

In our case, I assume that our Canadian son, nor I, need to provide anything here. Can anyone confirm?

b. Birth certificates for yourself and all family members, whether accompanying to Canada or not.

In our case, my wife has parents and a brother and sister. Of course none are immigrating with her. I am fairly certain that means that we would not include anythng for them, but confirmation would be nice.

Thanks,

You are correct. Here, family members refers only to immediate family (spouse and children).

Not sure about your other questions, but I am sure others here can help you.

Following! I have two children and I’m a bit confused how to answer these things as well! We haven’t applied for their numbers- but we are going to do so before we send the application.

You can answer Yes and just include a copy of the child's proof of citizenship, such as the Canadian birth certificate. You don't need to do any further paperwork.

Family members refers only to the spouse and children of the PA that aren't already Canadian citizens/PRs. You, your child and your spouse's parents/siblings are not family members for the purposes of this application.

If you are referring to their SINs, it makes zero difference to IRCC if the children have them or not. You need to submit proof of Canadian citizenship.

Hi there, thanks for your response.

Just curious, how do you know this is what to do? Did you have the same situation and this worked for you? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Adeel

I have not but many thousands and thousands of people have. IRCC simply needs to see that the child is a Canadian citizen and therefore doesn't need to be included in the app.
