It depends on how frequent your visits were. In general, they are aware of people living close to the border or around the area visiting the US from time to time; either for vacation or shopping ..etc. They usually issue RQ if they suspect the person might be working in the US or having some other ties to the US that extend further than regular visits. This is why most if not all greencard holders get RQs because they appear to lack the ties to Canada required to become a citizen, and appear that they might just be a citizen of convenience who will move and settle in the states as soon as the Canadian citizenship is in the bag.
Thank you marcher, that makes sense!

Hi group one quick question. I sent my citizenship application , family of 4 , on Aug 3rd , courier received on aug 7th. I did not receive any update so far. Is there anything we need to do or is it just a waiting game. Will I get an email about AOR ?

According to the spreadsheet, several applicants might have already received In Process status, but probably are not aware of it since they did not check their ecas. I am referring to Purke, luckyroyal, agshaheryar, Ttcdfolk, minta,7, Adilmk123, champ_indian, Farhan, qbsoha, and p.ny. If not, it might be updated soon. The only reason I am mentioning this is because several people think they will get an email to inform them of the change of status, but that is not how it works, you need to log into your ecas account and check. Good luck everyone!
Hi Marcher,
I just check the application status on the website, it says:

  1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on August 3, 2017.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on September 12, 2017.

Does this mean it's already in process or does any other information pops up when they start the process?

It's just a waiting game. You might be receiving it in a day or two. According to the sheet, it takes 35-40 days to receive AOR. If you have provided an email, they will send you an email then otherwise it will be a regular mail. You can check the following sheet for your reference

Excellent. Thanks for the information. Is there anyway to check application status before receiving AOR.

Hi minta, this means it is still not in process yet. Keep an eye on it though it might change later today or next week.

One more question marcher, If they want to send an RQ do they usually do it as soon as the status switches to "in-process" or they may do it anytime later during the process. Would they indicate that on online ecas or I would have to find out by mail?

Thank you!
Michael

Hi Michael,
Just to be clear, my answer is a guess as I have not been in the situation of receiving an RQ; in fact I am also an August applicant just like everyone on here :). I would assume RQs are sent later during the in-process stage. My understanding is that once the application is 'in-process', it means it is sent to the immigration office closest to your residence. That stage involves the bulk of the application's processing such as verifying your criminal record history ...etc. At some point during the 'in-process' they might decide to issue an RQ. In your case, I would not worry about it to be honest. It is normal that you visited the US a few times; as long as it wasn't frequent; or there is no pattern indicating that you were going there for a purpose other than tourism/shopping.

Anyone with knowledge and experience in the topic please correct me if I am wrong.

Regards.

Thank you marcher! I went to the US around 8 times in the last 4 years, all small 2-3 days trips for vacation purposes to places like NY, LA, Miami, Tampa, etc I have visited places more often than other places but I hope it s obvious that the visits are for tourism purpose since these cities I went to are mostly touristic. I think at this point we cant tell much whats gonna happen because it all depends at the way the officer looks at it but I am hoping I dont have to pay an expensive expense for visiting the US couple times a year.
If somebody has more knowledge about this topic plz let me know..

Thanks Marcher!

Michael

Mine is still application received, I check status regularly, I think on Monday it may change to in process (calculated guess).

Received AoR today.

Can't check status online just yet. Does anyone know if there is a lag between receiving AoR and when the status appears on ECAS? Also, if I choose Client ID Number as Identification Type, should I enter the numbers with a hyphen, or without?

I think there is a lag.
Do not enter hyphens.
