Hi, I currently am visiting my girlfriend and have been in Canada for 5 months. I want to stay here because I would like to be sponsored under the common law sponsorship class so that we can live together. I really do not want to leave, and recently I discovered that I have to be out of Canada by April 1st. (For some reason I thought it was April 9th) and now because Of this stupid mistake I can't receive an extension from what I understand. Please help me I don't want to leave my girlfriend it would really upset her and I.

You post is quite confusing.

You have to be out by April 1st? That was five months ago. And yet you say you've been in Canada for five months? Can you clarify when you actually entered Canada and how long you were allowed into the country for?

Pardon me. Lol. I meant to say October 1st I have to be out.

In that case you have lots of time. You just have to make sure your application to extend your visit to Canada reaches CIC before October 1st. The 30 day thing is just a guideline.

Is there any requirements? I know for sure there is proof of financial funds. My girlfriend is a full time student but worked all summer and saved money. I have about 1,000 US dollars at the current moment. Besides that we live with her entire family who is willing to take care of me during the time. And the ultimate question i have is my desire to be with my girlfriend to meet common law might not be enough in CIC's eyes for me to want to extend my visitor status.

People on here provide advice for free on their own time, so have some patience before bumping your posts.

Get a letter of support from her family. Wanting to become common-law is a perfectly acceptable reason to apply for an extension; provided you show sufficient proof of finances, you should have no issues.

Thanks. If they were to take a screen shot of her bank account with all her money in it would that qualify as proof of funds or does it have to be something deeper then just a picture of her account balances?

You should include actual bank statements.
