Due to the issues with Brexit and the pound maybe dropping even lower, I am starting to debate the thought of opening an online/Canadian bank account whilst still in the UK and transferring my current savings and transferring the remainder later.

Is this a wise strategy or is this even possible.

Can anyone advise please?

Technically yes it's possible. You can transfer the funds first and activate the account once you land in Canada. I've personally had experience with RBC and BMO and I'd assume other big banks would offer similar service too.
Whether or not this is wise is entirely up to you I guess.

As far as i know, canadian banks offer new immigrant accounts even before landing, as long as you already have been approved and have your copr. Not sure if they do the same thing before that point.

You do not have to be approved or have CoPR for many banks. I wasn't even in the express Entry pool when I opened mine.

If yes then can I kindly know which bank was that? As RBC said I can but I have to show the status of a new immigrant. Still waiting my copr, so it would be great if thats the case, means i can do it now.

I used RBC. Opened the account in January 2016, and didn't apply for PR until November 2016.

I opened an RBC GIC account with my student permit before coming to Canada.
One of my family members opened accounts with RBC with visitor visa

It wasn't done online though. We emailed/visited their regional office.

So you had a (status) in canada, even if its visit visa. I had a TRV in 2009 and i couldve opened one back then. However, what I'm saying is for a person like me now, outside of canada with no status in canada and visa isnt stamped yet whether its study permit or PR

And I'm not talking about banks with branches in both home country and canada where you have an account with them back home like say HSBC, because not everyone has such an account.
