Nice to see a Jamaican related thread and more so in respect to the new application and timelines down to a maximum of 12 months. Previously couples had to wait roughy 24+ months. Myself and my to be wife who I've been in a wonderful relationship with for almost a year and a half now will be heading down this road soon. We are thinking of doing an "outland" application. Currently in Canada at the moment as we prepare for our wedding. I will be traveling back to Jamaica later this year as my studies have finally come to and end. Any suggestions and advice that will help to build our case especially since we haven't got married as yet and while I'm still currently in Canada will be greatly appreciated.

Follow the instructions on the application to the tee, use the forum to help you and ensure you write a cover letter. Search for a cover letter template and write your love story. Ask questions and read each question slowly and carefully. One mistake and your package may be returned.

Thanks for the advice Destinedlove. We are also planning on going through and Immigration Practitioner to assist with the application and forms. Another quick question though as I remember seeing somewhere either in this thread or forum where the VO may get suspicious of a quick marriage with a Family Sponsorship that follows soon after. I'm not quite sure if the person meant a quick marriage in respect to the timeframe between the courtship time, the time of the wedding and the time a Sponsorship application was filed or it is just the timeframe between the wedding and the Sponsorship application. In my particular case we have been together for almost a year and a half so I wouldn't consider that a short courtship but my fiancé is excited about me being back in Canada as soon as possible and wants to submit the application as soon as she is able to submit a complete application as I will be leaving about two months after our wedding. What do you think?

Lots of people still apply even if the courting is short. Definitely write a great love story, have family members write letters for you and send pictures with lots of people.Still apply, my courtship was also so called short. Dont worry.

We have been courting since April 2016 to present. When you say have family members write letters for us are you talking about letters are you talking about letters attesting to our relationship or what should they include include in such letters?

If your new application (I used the old one) asks for letters from family members as an option, use that. Noone knows anything for sure especially since there has been a lot of changes. The best thing you can do it fill out the forms perfectly. I would apply for the visitors visa before applying for sponsorship so your spouse can travel to Canada like mine does.

Oh I see. Thought about getting a TRV but she basically wants to do the visiting anyway. However, not saying it's not possible but if by default you are not usually granted a TRV while an applicant has a pending Permanent Resident application I'm thinking that it could be equally possible to be denied entry at a Canadian port of entry.

Alot of people have said that its nearly impossible to get the TRV after applying for sponsorship. What we used to get our TRV: Name on house title, name on car title, Return to school letter, 2 bank account statements, invitation letter. Good luck.

My husband and I met in Feb 2015, started dating in June 2015, had a baby in Aug 2016 and got married March 2017. My application was submitted April 2017. time is not the issue, just write a great love story and prove that your relationship is real( pics, messages, bills( if they are in both your names)etc,etc.
