Proof of financial support...

Hi there,

I am compiling a visa for my boyfriend to come and visit. I have a question about the financial support. I have a family from my church who is signing to take financial support of him while he's here with letter and bank statements. I noticed on the checklist that it also says proof of financial support, for him? Does he need to prove he has money, when we have someone else basically sponsoring him and will have proof of his plane ticket, insurance, lodging, food ect?

It's a bad idea for the family from your church to support his trip - that's going to significantly increase the chances of refusal. He needs to prove he can pay for the trip himself.

Hello! I agree with Scylla! I applied for TRV recently and I have researched about all the Do's and Dont's in applying for a TRV. Your boyfriend must prove that he has sufficient funds to pay for his trip. His own money. What you can provide is an invitation letter indicating that you can provide accommodations for him. That's what my Uncle and Aunt did for me.

The same family who is sponsoring him is also providing his accommodations and taking care of him. I'm not sure I understand why it's a bad idea, when it's listed in the list of documentation/letters needed?? We are following that??

CIC wants to see that your boyfriend has the funds to pay for this trip himself. Otherwise this raises concerns about his motives for coming to Canada (i.e. concerns he has plans on remaining long term).

They will find it strange that some random family wants to pay for his trip here.

I am about to mention that too, that a random family will accommodate and pay for everything for him. The financial support documents you see in the checklist are the documents your boyfriend must provide because these documents will prove his economic ties to his country. In my case, I provided Certificate of Compensation and Employment, pay stubs, bank statements, bank certificates, Leave form from work

This is also not a good idea. Well in some cases here it worked when the applicant explained in a letter where the money came from but I would prefer to have the money be owned and saved by your boyfriend.

Did you have someone else supporting you? The issue is in third world countries it's so hard to show documentation, when everything is paperless and cash, but we can try to put together something, at least from his work.

Where is your boyfriend from? I am from the Philippines and yes living in a 3rd world country can be a problem in getting a visa but not impossible with proper documentation. No one is supporting me for my intended trip to Canada. Though I will be staying with my Uncle and Aunt. They provided an Invitation Letter for me and their citizenship cards and passports. That's all they gave me. Yes, provide documents from his work. Does he have an existing bank account?
