You can apply from the US. You do not go to the Canadian Embassy - you follow the directions in the link below.

Have you already been accepted by a college in Canada? You are cutting it a bit close for the September intake.

Thanks Scylla....Yes I have already got the acceptance letter from college in Canada.
But I had this doubt in my mind that upon receipt of the offer letter whether I can apply for student visa from here itself (US) or need to go back India. So thanks for the info you provided. I think its the Canadian Embassy in Los Angeles where the application for study permit can be placed, as am in California. Do you have any idea.

A regular diploma - no. A post graduate diploma - possibly.
