Hi all,

My current work visa expires at the end of the month. I am enrolled in the Canadian Experience Class EE pool but have not yet received an ITA.

I received a BC PNP nomination including a Work Permit Support Letter a couple days ago and now have ~900 points on my EE CSR score, so I expect to be invited to apply in the next wave.

My question is this: Do I have to apply for a separate temporary work permit using my WPSL parallel to EE application so that I can continue to work for my current employer, or, will receiving an ITA for EE automatically also allow me to continue working for my current employer even though my work permit is expiring?

Thanks,
Spif

Hi Spif,
As you have 900 points you can prepare the necessary documents like police certificate, medicals.
Once you have this ready and when you submit the application you will receive an AOR with which you can apply for work permit.
You can also continue working until a decision is made on your application under implied status.

Hi Aeibine,
I already have my police certificate ready and do not think I need medical assessment as I have already been living in Canada for the last 2 years.
I am currently still in the Canadian Experience Class EE pool, and have not received an ITA yet.

Will I only get an AOR after I officially apply for PR? I already have my provincial nomination right now which came with a Work Permit Support Letter. Should I use that Work Permit Support Letter to get a temporary work permit or is that not necessary? There's only 23 days until the end of my IEC Young Professionals visa and hope I can continue working! Thank you

You will need to clear medicals inspite of the fact that you live in canada...it's PR pre-requisite..

I see. Thank you. I see there's a couple IRCC approved physicians in the city I live so will make an appointment asap.

Would I also need a police check for Canada or only foreign countries?

Hi all,
My question is this: Do I have to apply for a separate temporary work permit using my WPSL parallel to EE application so that I can continue to work for my current employer,

You have to receive an ITA , submit your eAPR, and receive your email AOR (takes about 24 hours), and then submit your application to change/extend your work permit (before your current permit expires, to be eligible under the BOWP program.

will receiving an ITA for EE automatically also allow me to continue working for my current employer even though my work permit is expiring? No.

Will I only get an AOR after I officially apply for PR? Yes.

I already have my provincial nomination right now which came with a Work Permit Support Letter. Should I use that Work Permit Support Letter to get a temporary work permit ...
Don't know. I thought PNPs were now only giving such letters to applicants in non-EE streams. Can you confirm that you applied under Express Entry BC and not one of the other streams?

You should check with BC PNP whether you can use the letter to apply for a new work permit before you submit your CEC application.

There's only 23 days until the end of my IEC Young Professionals visa and hope I can continue working!

Yes, it will be close. If there is a draw this week, you should be ready to apply ASAP.

But you should also be aware that some people say that people who apply to extend their work permit after an IEC visa do not benefit from implied status. That is because unlike most work permits, the IEC visa is not extendable. You can remain in Canada while your new permit is being processed, but you cannot work until you get the new work permit. Since working without authorization would jeopardize your PR application, you should consider taking a leave of absence from your job...

Any country EXCEPT Canada in which you have spent a combined total of at least 6 months, since you turned 18 years of age...

In MOST cases, you will need to provide the PCCs up front with the eAPR. But be sure to check country specific instructions -

Thanks everyone. I spoke to the BC PNP officer who told me the following:

You can go ahead and print your Work Permit Support Letter and apply online or at the border. It is your choice.
Even if you apply online, you don’t need to stop working for as long as you applied before your current work permit expires. You will be on Implied status. Implied status means you are allowed to work as before until you receive a decision on your work permit application.

So that's what I will do. I'll apply for a temporary work permit using my WPSL. When I get an ITA for PR I'll also apply for that, but at least I will have a work permit for the duration.
