That's exactly what i thought at the beginning!! I mean i am in a big financial challenge but i know that it's doable, it's not easy but hey i never wanted an easy life. Easy life is a boring one. Also i feel very satisfied to know i'm able to live independently with no help from my family, study, pay for everything and have fun with friends. I have an entire life going on with everything under control. I believe getting easy money like welfare would make me lazy which would directly affect my schooling or make me think "why bother to go to school when i can get easy money?"
This may sound exaggerated but i have friends who are in this circle now and gave up their dreams or think that studying or working is a waste of life time. I don't wanna be like that.
whatever he did, i don't care. what i do know is that i have a new life and big dreams and i WILL achieve them by hard work. I don't need money from no one to be honest, not from him, not from the government and not from my family. All i want is to succeed (A LOT) and show women that "Software engineering' isn't only for men like he claimed.

Welfare should not be used as a revenge tactic. By all means use it if you really genuinely need to, but don't misrepresent your situation just to make yourself eligible. Even though he would be billed by the government to pay it back, using welfare when you don't need to damages the program for those that genuinely need it.
Plus it's better for your own character if you can succeed on your own anyways.

But it helps with rent and you know how people go on osap for school just a little assistance I went to college with a girl on welfare she is now a social worker make her own money your ex sounds like a cave man

I just feel bad about taking it, him not working all this time made me have to work extra time to afford rent for us and food for him to eat. Going through this and his immigration threats during this whole time made me more independent. By taking welfare i'll admit to myself that i'm not independent anymore which would feel like one step forward and 2 steps back.

You do what you need to do to ensure you are taken care of. You are right in that whatever he did is in the past and you don't have to deal with him any longer. IF you need assistance, then by all means, get it, but if you don't, then do not do it as a means of revenge. There is no better revenge then to succeed where someone has told you that you can not. YOU are succeeding right now by being the bigger person.

Feel secure when you close your eyes at night that you status in Canada is perfectly safe, you are doing good for yourself by studying and learning and there is nothing anyone can do to drag you down. Keep reaching for the stars girl. You got this!

I have 2 years to go. I'm taking full time but only 60% course load in order to be able to afford it and in order to get A+ in all courses i take. The structure of programs at U of T allows that and it's going great for me so i'm planning to continue like that. I managed to motivate myself through the hard times and now that you guys say i'm perfectly safe (immigration status wise) the motivation went high to the skies! Welfare could reduce this motivation, and life isn't all about money, i believe it's about happiness.

have you applied for any scholarship that ex of yours know's he cannot put fear in you and I suggest just signed the annulment and I hope he did not destroy copr
