Can anyone help me to choose the right NOC?

I was employed as a full-time, paid, faculty member at a Faculty of Fine Arts at one of the universites in Serbia.
From 2009 to 2016 I worked as an Assistant (that was the official name of my position), teaching undergraduate courses History of Music. Minimum requirements to get that job were completed Bachelor and Master studies of Musicology and enrolled PhD studies of Musicology (I enrolled and completed all level of my studies at another university). Other requirements were prominent results in research field outside the University. After I have completed my PhD studies and got the PhD title, I was promoted in 2016 in the position of Assistant Professor (the official name in Serbia is "Docent").
I need to know NOC code for my previous position - "Assistant". My main duties at that position were:

- preparing and holding the lectures and laboratory sessions (subject History of Music, which is a compulsory subject for all undergraduate students of Music Department),

- mentoring students' seminar papers,

- conducting consultations with students and advising them,

- preparing, conducting and grading examinations,

- continuously improvement in academic research field: publishing research book (1) and research papers in scholarly journals or books and presenting research results at the national and international scientific conferences;

- participation in the non-teaching work of Music Department, Teaching Council and other professional bodies and committees of the Faculty and University;

I performed all those duties alone (which is characteristic for the position of Lecturer). However, before I got the PhD title, I had to be officially supervised by Professor (who had the rank of Associate professor). Professor had to be present at the exams (but in practice she was not always) and she had to fill up students's marks in the academic records (in practice I did that too, and professor only put her signature in the records).

In my job contract, there is no clear specification of my duties. Some of the duties listed above are specified in the contract, and there is also a notion that as an Assistant, I am supervised by Professor (or that I assist him/her).

After I was promoted in the Assistant Professor, my duties stayed the same as before, with one important difference: now I am not supervised by any higher rank (neither officially not unofficially).

As you can seen, my main duties at the position of Assistant mostly match with description of the Lecturer (I did much much more than Teaching Assistant). On the other side, Lecturer is not supervised by higher ranks.

To conclude, it seems like my position of the Assistant was between NOC 4011 and 4012.
I even wrote to NOC but they replied me with a template mail...

If I were you I would list your job as assistant as NOC 4012, and your job as assistant professor as 4011.

If I were you I would list your job as assistant as NOC 4012, and your job as assistant professor as 4011.
Thank you for your advice. I will wait for some other answers before I finally decide. Because, if I put Lecturer for my first position, CIC might estimate that I overestimated my position. Otherwise, if I put Teaching assistant, they might think that I underestimated my job.

Your job titles don't mean anything to CIC.
The important part is job description. You need to choose the NOC with closest description to your job. If I were you, I will choose NOC 4011 for both experiences.

Underestimating your job duties is irrelevant. Overestimating your job duties can result in rejection.

Generally, 4012 is for teaching assistants or research assistants who are supervised by a professor. 4011 would be the professor or lecturer or faculty member. In Canada, member of the faculty is a title reserved for lecturers and professors, not students.

From your detailed description of your job duties, 4011 would almost certainly be overestimating your experience before Assistant Professor. I am a postdoc and a lecturer in my faculty. I claimed experience under 4011 as these titles fall under that code.

this actually for my sister;
she does have experience as an Associate Professor in an engineering college( from Aug 2010 to July 2017). She had to left the job due to her kid. Now the problem is, does she can apply under express entry and get eligible for experience points as she is currently unemployed.
Secondly, if she is eligible to apply and get her experience points, then her experience would be considered under NOC code 4011 or 4012.

please suggest and guide.

thanks in advance

I think she is eligible to apply despite she is not currently employed. Additionally, she has more than 6 years of work experience, that is maximum points in that field. Since she worked as and Associate Professor, her NOC is 4011.
Please check more regarding this matter, and good luck!
