How long does it take to start background check? And how do I know it's been started?

Probably a question that has been asked a thousand and one times!

I don't have mycic because we have lawyers but people who do say it is updated to BGC in progress

Thanks!

Do you know how long it takes?

Thanks!

Do you know how long it takes?

:) I think you are overthinking...it is different for every application. From what I have heard generally processing the BGC is the lengthiest part of the process for a lot of applications but there really is not a defined timeline

Should've been more clear, I meant how long it takes for the bgc to go to in process. Not how long it takes to be processed

Again, this totally depends on AOR2 and when they open your file in Ottawa and start looking at it, so it is impossible to say. When we got AOR2 I just took it to mean they are working on the application, namely the BGC, as that would not have been done at CPC Miss...I cant remember, do you have AOR2 yet?

I got aor2 may 24!

Is there a way to put a time line on my profile?

Right right.
There should be a March spreadsheet...I think there is a way to add a timeline but not sure how.

I think you are a little different because US. I am not sure if the BGC maybe does not go into process while they are still awaiting medical/have not submitted request.
I wonder if they have to have medical results prior to starting BGC or something of that nature?
Just a thought though

Not sure. I'm still waiting for medical as you know. I seem to get all communication for VO on Friday's. so maybe this Friday I will hear something and get a request!

Yeah it could just be that they want the whole application before starting BGC? I hope you get it soon :D

That is not correct, in my case these were different and we did not submit use of a representative form. I believe it may be applicable if the countries mentioned in these addresses are different, then one may need the representative form.
That just means you got lucky. If your application is returned to you, it's such a common reason for return that they have a pre-printed paragraph about how the 2 addresses need to be the same that they highlight on the letter.

It's so weird - I've seen a couple cases where with US applicants you don't get the request until it gets sent to VO! Is that just a US app thing I wonder

I think it is a US thing (at least from my experience). From AOR 2 to Medical Request, I waited 5 weeks...and my friends who were in the same situation as mine (US Citizens being sponsored by a Canadian Citizen/PR) all had the same experience {AOR2 first before MR}. If there are any exceptions to this, they are (I think) few and far between.

Thats what I figured and also makes sense. We are Irish so does not apply so I wasnt sure. Thanks for clarifying!

Just read a report on the top 3 slowest Canada visa offices. Apparently these are the 3 slowest and least productive. Canadian visa offices on the list:

1.Afghanistan
2.Bhutan
3.Mexico

It seems these countries process applications from well over 10 different countries and territories whilst having a very small amount of staff working on applications. Reportedly there have been cases in which they took well over 5 months just to crack open an application. Allegedly these VO's have been flagged under "high rates of marriage fraud and marriage of convenience" with cases in which reportedly there have even been couples found to be getting pregnant and conceiving children with the sole purpose of getting their applications looked at first. The Federal government keep these VO's under its watch with a commission on marriage of convenience and therefore slows down the processing in general through employing less staff, the report says.

I am gonna try to add the link to this if it allos me.

Yikes! Luckily Ottawa VO isn't on that list.

Best of lucks to all!
