Police Clearance Validity Question

Hi Forum Members,

I would like to know what is the validity of a police clearance in the eyes of CIC. I have travelled to a couple of places (UAE, UK, India, USA) and am a resident of India. I have PCC's for all the locations however they are atleast 15 months old. I currently reside in the US and haven't travelled back to any of those countries since the time the PCC was issued.

Would I need to obtain new PCC's or would the old PCC"s be valid for CIC. Is there an email address or a phone number for CIC where I can call and confirm or if anyone on this forum has some answers for me?

Thank you very much for reading my question.

Thanks,
Dan

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1 - For your current country of residence (US) it is valid for 6 months.

2 - For all other countries it is valid if obtained after the last time you lived in such countries.

Thank you very much for such a quick response. Not being a doubting Thomas, but is there any verbiage mentioning the same on CIC"s website. I looked but couldn't find.

Who needs a police certificate?
In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate.

You may need a police certificate from any country or territory that you have spent six months or more since the age of 18.

For example: if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:

  • are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
  • have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

Do you know where can I find this IRCC quote now? It seems to have disappeared form their website.

Thanks! Forgot to mention that I was looking at other classes of immigration (e.g. spousal sponsorship), this quote seems to be for Express Entry. Any idea there?
Police certificates
You (the principal applicant), and any family members 18 or older (who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents), must submit police certificates from the following country or countries with your application:

  • The country where you (or they) currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more.
    and

  • The country where you (or they) have spent most of your (their) life since the age of 18.

Thanks! The problem is that here there's no mentioning whatsoever anything about validity, so I assume that the police certificate must be valid, even if obtained after PA left the country. For express entry, there's clearly stated that a police certificate is valid indefinitely if it was obtained AFTER the applicant left the country.

Hello everyone . I've got a very important question regarding pcc.

I submitted my paper application 10 months ago ( federal economy sub class ) along with pcc from my origin country. I received my AOR 1 month after and also pre-arrival letter couple days ago although I haven't been asked for medical yet and back ground status showing "not started "

( since the date I received pcc, I am in Canada on work permit ) however this is not my concern

I am now about 33 years old. I'm confused whether the last 10 years is the base for obtaining pcc and I should provide pcc for last 10 years of my life ( 23-33 ) or since the age 18? The problem is I was in India about 12 years ago ( for less than a year ) and I changed my passport more than 3 times after I left India . I probably lost my first passport and Indian embassy cordinator said you must have the passport that you entered with. having said that as of today I haven't asked for such a pcc to submit. but I am thinking if they ask what should I do ? its really stressful and I dont know whether I will be asked for that or they already checked my docs and everything was fine that they sent me invitation to pre-arrival services.

Please share your opinion with me.
Thanks

This is the new rule:

"You must include police certificates when you apply for permanent residence.

Our online system will ask for a police certificate for:

  • you and your family members who are 18 years or older
  • and
  • every country you (or a family member) stayed in during the last 10 years for 6 months or more in a row
You don’t need to give us police certificates for any period of time before you were 18 years old or for time spent in Canada.

After you apply, an officer may ask for additional police certificates from any time in your life since you were 18 years old."
