Honestly speaking, so-called "TIPS & TRICKS" just don't work in achieving CLB-9 benchmark. You will have to study and practice hard to achieve this milestone.
I think it's a sign that draw will be held this week.
Normally they do maintenance on Monday-Tuesday
But as draw is planned this week, cic decided to do maintenance at the weekend.
Therefore, I believe we can see draw this week between Wed and Friday with CRS 415.
hope so. CRS might fall. The only concern is the number of new registrations in EE. If that count is less after the last draw, then we can expect a fall in CRS.
I managed this in my second attempt. On first, I had W6.5 due to which I couldn't get CLB9 extra points.
For preparation, I didn't join any institute or took any coaching. I have been working in IT firm for last 10 years so that helped a lot. But below are few tips I can share:
LISTENING:
- Be very attentive during listening. Every word matters. Don't let your mind go lost while the audio is playing.
- Some questions are easy. The answers are simply fill in the blanks sort. The statement will be pretty much same as in your paper and as played in audio so those are not that difficult.
- Some questions are tough because in audio, you will not be given much time to comprehend it. That is why you need to be very attentive. Some recordings will be played comparatively quicker than rest and this is the catch. You need to understand the idea of the talk if not every word so that you can make an accurate guess among the options.
- Some questions are tricky. On rare occasions, you will be given tricky questions. The audio is talking about something while the questions is not exactly talking about it. It is related to it and the options are given to confuse you.
- For instance in my case, the audio talked about some ancient tribe in which the respect to the person was given based on how many people he has helped. But in the multiple choice answers, the correct option was: Who has more favors.
- Other options were also pretty close contender. So you need to be attentive and should be able to guess the answer.
- I guessed 3 answers based on what I heard and they all turned out to be correct.
- Finally do as many practice on listening as you can. The more you listen, the more you become proficient in it.
WRITING:
- Writing could be tricky and there is no other option but practice as many letters and essays as you can.
- There are certain set of properties that examiner looks for in the writing test. The details of those properties are in the IELTS official website but some of them are: type of vocabulary used, the type of language used (formal for formal letters, informal for informal letters and so on), idioms used, the flow of the essay (each line should be related to the earlier one, there shouldn't be abrupt change of the flow) and so on.
- Once you get these things under your belt (see how I use here under your belt
) you should be fine in writing. - IELTS rarely give good bands in this module so as you long as you can score 7, you are good.
- I have seen many folks who are stuck on 6.5 for quite some time despite many re-takes.
READING:
- Reading is usually easy part but could be very tricky and difficult. I scored 8.5 first time 39/40. Second time, it was very difficult so I could manage only 7.5. Don't take reading lightly. As I said, it could be very tricky sometimes.
- While attempting answer, if there are questions marked paragraph wise - Like to answer this question read para A/B/C etc the good. If there is no such explicit identification then I believe there is no point in reading entire reading and then start answering. Don't do it.
- Read the question and quickly skim the text written. It is very likely that you will reach the corresponding para and can answer the question much faster this way.
- Understanding the context is also very important. Like listening, some questions could be very tricky to answer and no straight answer to such questions is given in the text. You need to get the grasp of the context to answer such questions and every exam has certain number of question of such type.
SPEAKING:
- Now coming to the speaking. It is kinda intimidating module especially for folks who don't speak English as their first language.
- Speaking could be very difficult I am not gonna lie to you but only if you are already scared.
- Try not to be. Treat it like just a normal formal conversation with some stranger rather exam. Calm your senses and you are on a good start.
- Now first part will be simple Hi Hello, basic introduction and some random questions. Here examiner is trying to ease you in the exam and also trying to understand your basic knowledge and English proficiency during normal conversation.
- Second part is the tricky one where you are given 2 minutes to speak on certain topic. This is tricky because you never know what you are going to speak. The only thing you can do to score good here is that you have to proficient in speaking. There is no other way. If you practice speaking on regular basis, even for 5 min a day in front of mirror, you will do good here.
- I hate to say this but here nothing can save you but your English speaking and your vocabulary knowledge.
- Some idioms thrown here and there are always a good sign that you are comfortable in English.
- Always smile and don't get nervous. Try to be as vocal as possible but stay on topic.
- Deviating from the topic is a BIG NO NO. If you have nothing else to say, don't speak further but don't deviate from the topic.
Finally, there are some factors that depend on the luck. Sometimes some modules are very easy while sometimes the same module is very tricky. Don't lose hope if you couldn't score good this time. There will always be a next time.

If draw happens today or tomorrow I belive CRS will be 413. Or even lower if they decide to have bigger draw than 3900.
