Hi All,

Relatives in Canada mean blood relations strictly. Can they be cousins also? I have cousins and my dads uncle in Canada. Can I have points for them if apply for OINP?
Thanks.

currently, you dont get points in OINP even if you have your wife and kids there :)

you can use that relation as a mean to say - i will stay in Ontario and not move to any other province, however no points will be awarded (btw i'm assuming those cousins are in ontario province)

You can get 5 points if you've relatives in Canada (Citizens/PR) under Ontario nomination: canadavisa.com/ontario-express-entry-human-capital-priorities-stream.html

My cousin is in Ontario and I did not get any point for that. Only parents or siblings.

You do not get points added to your CRS for having any relatives in Canada. However, in addition to the CRS score, CIC assesses federal skilled worker (FSW) applications based on six selection factors as well, where you need to score a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the FSW grid http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp. On the FSW grid you get 5 points for Canadian relatives provided they fall under one of the following.

- parent,
- grandparent,
- child,
- grandchild,
- child of a parent (sibling),
- child of a grandparent (aunt or uncle), or
- grandchild of a parent (niece or nephew), who is
- living in Canada
- 18 years or older and
- a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Thanks abc.

So you only get points for real siblings, aunts, uncles and nephews..etc... not for first or distant cousins etc?

It is for FSW as Stanlee wrote, no points addable to CRS.

I have a similar query. My uncle (Father's real brother) is a Canadian citizen. But however I think I'm not getting extra points for the same under Express Entry (FSW)
