Education does not match job, will this be a problem?

My job is IT consultant, I am creating an EE profile but on the page for my NOC ( 2171 - Information systems analysts and consultants) profile the educational criteria is either a degree in computers or MBA. I am a functional consultant not a technical consultant, and my bachelors degree is unrelated to my job. So the problem is that on the EE profile page they are specifically asking when did I complete my education that corresponds to my job (the help section asks to check the education section on the job profile page). Now I don't know what to fill there because they don't list my educational background as a requirement. I do have a certificate from Oracle that is related to my job, but WES does not assess those. If I simply enter my general science degree, will the fact that it is unrelated to my job profile lead towards it not actually being counted towards my CRS?

Hey thanks for helping and sorry if I sound obtuse but your reply is ambiguous, which one do you mean :

1. No it (my degree) won't count towards my score
or
2. No it (having an unrelated degree) won't matter

That's because you did not ask pointed questions...It's all one big para...

Anyway what i meant was your Education has no relation to the NOC you choose. NOC is related ONLY to the job that you do and your roles and responsibilities in the reference letter should reflect that.

Hope that clarifies...

I totally disagree. Just ask the folks that have been rejected by CIC due to NOC mismatch, or the folks that OINP have asked to change their NOC or the countless number of people SINP have rejected due to not having education related to their NOC.

IMHO, you need to read the requirements of the NOC very carefully and make sure that your Education and the description of your experience matches. The only thing not so important is you job title.

For OP, may I ask what your degree is in? Also when you say functional consultant, I have no idea what you're talking about. Is that presales etc? Perhaps more info will enable us give more suggestions

Can you share an example scenario for a rejection for the mismatch?

Check the reasons for rejection thread
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/reasons-for-rejection-t306713.0.html;msg4967114#msg4967114

There is a comprehensive list that contains it somewhere there. Trying to find it

Then my husband is in BIG trouble as the education diploma he got 20 years ago was in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning field - he is now a senior project & compliance manager for transit!! I don't think they can expect everyone to remain in the field they have a certificate in (with the exception of maybe doctor, nurse, teacher etc). Life happens and things change. I assume as long as their employer letter matches the job description & duties of the NOC then it should be fine. Seniors, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Copacetic! #TWIS

If what @One_Topsy said were true...70% (and i am being conservative here) of applicants won't be able to immigrate. Anyway my intention on this forum isn't to argue, but to just help as many applicants as possible with whatever little i may know or have learnt in the past few months.

I completely agree with you guys, but the language on the occupation section is very specific. On the occupation section they are looking for the date when one "obtained the minimum education or training stated in the NOC description". This forum is not allowing me to post link but you can chek this imgur - imgur.com/lHKdkSe.png (or tell me how to paste an image)

A functional consultant knows the functional side of implementation for example Human resource or finance or supply chain management, but not the technical side. NOC 2171 (check this imgur url imgur.com/lHKdkSe.png) matches exactly what I do. Employment requirements mentions Degrees and certificates. Now I do have a Oracle certificate, but no degree that matches the ones listed here. There is no way to add the certificate from software vendor to EE profile. I moved from my Bachelors in science degree to a job where I gained functional experience, then I got certified in the oracle enterprise software got some technical training, and then moved to the consulting job. My job title is Business Analyst, it a job in HIGH demand and pays well in Canada. They really need people like me everywhere. Its just that I don't have the exact degree they mention. I don't really need a computer science degree for what I do, in fact no Job seeker looks for that. Its unfortunate that CIC lists it as a requirement. Hope this helps.

1. For the limited purposes of choosing NOC in your EE profile, education requirements and job titles can be safely ignored. The only thing that matters if your job responsibilities match most of the main duties of your chosen NOC. Additionally, NOC is a Canada-specific categorization. IRCC understands that the rest of the World can choose to not have the same education requirements as they do for any particular job.

2. Education requirements may re-enter the picture when you are trying to land a job inside Canada after getting your PR. Some NOCs are regulated, others aren't.

3. Answer to your question - you can choose 2171 with a general sciences degree and also answer the question 'when did you qualify for this NOC' with your month/year of graduation.

All the best!

OK, in my NOC, it says that Computer Science Degree usually required, what will happen in that case?
