Hi friends I called service canada they told they don't have my name on record.

I called Income Support Contact Centre they gave me more numbers , I called all of them but not getting any information.

Little bit worried . Don't know what to do now. I feels like no one knows anything in canada government that where exactly I have to call regarding this.
Ok hang in their im getting a number for you

Hey there

Did CIC not provide you with contact information regarding this ???

I'm not sure what province your in so am providing with some of overpayment centrex in Canada for your issue. If you don't see your province call anyone one of those number so someone can redirect you to your province. If your name is not in ytheir system that you owe them, then I would have someone from there to put that in writing so you can submit to CIC to clear your name to sponsor your new wife.

Anyways here are the number and locations : - good luck and keep me posted

Well if your name is not in their records they should produce documentation stating that -
That's mean you do not owe them anything -seems like no government at this time can find records that you own money for spousal undertaking

Also try to find out the office where she collected the welfare they should have records also and if they too can't prove that you owe anything, then ask for a letter saying this because thats the proof you would need to show CIC to clear your name to sponsor again

Try that and keep me posted

I feel your pain

Thanks for the reply

I already called that edmonton office , where she has collected money . The supervisor their told me that her file was closed in 2012. They told I have to go their personally and then they can help.

And I will try again tonight to call the office where she collected the social assistance.
But the prob they don't give me any information because I am in india rightnow and my return date is January 17th.
Do you think I should postpone tickets and go early in December nearly 24th???

It depends is your file transferred to VO yet ( how far are you in the process ?? )
If so did they give you a timeframe for payment or indicate that your case will process or closed ??
Also did you indicate or check the yes box on your application to continue to proceed with your application if for whatever reason you got denied your SA ??

If not then look into it right away when you get back to Canada !!

My only concern is your file will be closed because by the time they are ready to request your new wife's passport you will still be dealing with welfare department about money owed - CIC will not wait for you to clear up your payment issue and you will have to re-apply all over again (submitting your proof of payment it documents from social services)

Find out where you are in the process of your application and compare with the time the you are coming back to Canada, remember dealing with social services can take some time too. ( I heard ither waited 3-4 months to get the document staying they paid up)

Good luck

Keep me posted

Hi
I had a similar case but i dealt with ontario, I called the number cic wrote on the letter, I called from overseas because i was visiting my husband and i was told to fax the letter i received from Cic, the letter has your ex-wife ' s name. The file with social assistance is under your ex wife' name and they need to contact the office that issued the money, you should write a letter explaining that you want to find out how much you owe so you can pay the money, you will have to pay the full amount before the VO contacts your wife. In ontario they took 6 weeks to send me the official letter stating how much i owe. Once i paid the full amount I had to wait 4 more weeks for the official confirmation but my husband was called for an interview so I wrote a letter to the VO and he took it to the interview with a copy of the bank draft, I asked them to give me 2 weeks to send the official confirmation, they gave me 90 days. In the letter I explained my situation , in my case it was my stepfather who went on welfare and I was not aware of this. I called cic and they told me that it was the VO who makes the final decision re:sponsor approval and I quoted this in the letter begging them to keep the file open, they did and later approved me as a sponsor.
FYI the file had been transferred to the VO because you probably paid the full fee and you check off the box that asks you if you want the application to be forwarded to the VO even if you are not found eligible .
My other suggestion would be to email your MP, they can help you to get the information and speed it up but the only way to clear it is to pay the full amount
I hope this info helps

Hello violet12

Thanks for all the information I understand what you are staying
The thing with me is am waiting for SA Approval and didn't indicate on the form to let the application go to VO Incase im denied As a sponsor. I received the AOR With UCI number on dec 5thWhat should I do ...,, do I call and change that incase am denied that I want the file to go to VO

I never received any letters in the past that ex husband went on welfare but I have a strong feeling he did. I have called the ontario number before I filed like two times to see if I owe money for sponsorship default and I was told no

I too live in ontario violet11 but my question to you was the numbet they gave you was in the overpayment dept or was it the local office where he collected welfare. Because it's the overpayment dept i called two times and try checked the system under my name to see if I i owe and i was told I don't

Now am more worried because you mentioned it was the local office who told you. On the letter you received did they have the local number or the overpayment number the 1800 number??? I wouldn't know what local office he used

Did they provide you with any file numbers
How long was your undertaking for, from what year to what year was yas your sponsorship
Mine was from 2001 to 2011 10 years sponsorship and like you I have never been notified

This is scarey and im real worried
Again am waiting for SA

Any information violet11 please reply thank so much

the number I called was the 1-888-346-5184, the overpayment recovery unit (ORU). They did a search with the person's name that took welfare (not my name), they need the person's full name and date of birth which is included in the letter that CIC sent me. My husband's application was already in the VO when I was notified so I took my chances. CIC sent me a letter in Nov 2014 but I never received it, I had to request a new letter and requested that to be in email. I had to wait four weeks before they sent me the letter again so I received it in January 2015 and in March my husband had an interview. In Ontario you can't go in person everything is done over the phone. The ORU does the search and contacts the office where the person received welfare and notifies you of the amount. If you already sent the application all you have to do is wait for CIC to tell you if you are eligible to sponsor, you have the option of withdrawing the application and they will refund you part of the fee. My stepfather's sponsorship was for 10 years and it ended in 2002, I file my taxes every year and I was never notified, there was no record that I owe any money, unfortunately the various government departments are not connected, I only found out when I submitted my husband's sponsorship application.

Hi friends
Needs some advise regarding R133(1)(g)(i).

I am canadian citizen and I am from Alberta.
And I have sponsered my 2nd wife from india.
After submitting file for sponsership, after 3 months I got letter from canada immigration department that I am not eligible for sponsership as my x-wife have ask for social assistance in income support centre.
But still immigration department has forwarded file to Delhi embassy.
In letter they said that once I pay my default assistance, a copy of confirmation will be amended to my file in immigration file I have paid all assistance and now I am eligible for sponsership.

But unfortunatelly I am in india right now and I am going back to canada in January ending.

I called the number given in letter but they told they can't tell anything on phone.

So what to do ??????
Please give some advise.

You can contact the government and just pay it. That would certainly help your case some.

Thanks for you kind help

My undertaking is for 3 years. And income support says her file for social assistance is closed in 2012.
So I have to now repay.
Hi, i am dealing with same problem. Wondering, how much you have to repay for social assistance and where should we go to pay this amount?
